A patientā€™s relative approached me today asking for some help with an issue they encountered in another department. While I was getting her the right contact information, her eyes kept cutting to the patient call terminal, telemetry monitors, and pneumatic tube station which all alarm in a maddening syncopation nonstop all day. Indeed itā€™s also joined by bed alarms, chair alarms, the dying strains of a rolling workstation, pagers, phones, voceras, overhead šŸ”Š codes, yelling patients, etc.

She looked back at me. ā€œSo you just sit here all day and listen to this?ā€

ā€œAmong other things.ā€

ā€œSure, but how do you not want to smash things?ā€

My good madam, who says I donā€™t?!

@MotherDucker
People not familiar with it get low-grade panicked that no one is paying attention to alarms, too.
