Graduates of a new vocational program offered at Tulsa Community College and the University of Oklahoma will be able to begin on-the-job training right after finishing school. The move is part of the FAA’s effort to combat the employee shortage that has led to staff burnout and flight delays. Despite recent successes in ramping up hiring, the agency reported earlier this year that it’s still short about 3,000 air traffic controllers.—HVL, SK

I don't know about you, but being short 3K critical overseers might cause me pause when traveling...

FAA announces two vocational programs to get more air traffic controllers. Some college grads can start yelling at pilots working in control towers without having to train at the Federal Aviation Administration’s academy in Oklahoma, the agency said this week.

Homeowners there don’t usually have flood insurance, either because they aren’t expecting heavy hurricane damage that far from the coast or because they can’t afford it.

COST OF LIVING FORCES CUTTING SECURITY

Most homes in Helene’s path didn't have flood insurance. Only 2% of the homes hit by Hurricane Helene in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina had a policy protecting them against catastrophic flooding, according to an analysis by Politico and E&E News. The storm tore through six states, killing at least 200 people, with particularly sweeping devastation in the mountainous parts of western North Carolina, where few people saw it coming.

In a shocking turn of events, someone was able to use a new high-powered tech product for evil. Two Harvard students paired the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses with facial recognition software to rapidly identify strangers and compile their personal information from the internet to highlight the privacy concerns that are getting unboxed with easily accessible consumer tech.

Set aside the misogyny, the racism, the slavish need to wrap himself around Trump's most ghoulish concepts. The threat to the democracy is the reason so many Republicans and independents who don't like everything on Kamala Harris' menu will vote for her.

The sanctity of the vote is the beating heart of American democracy. And J.D. Vance couldn't even defend that.

MT RUSHMORE ORIGIN STORY

ON this date in 1927 - The first actual work of carving began on Mount Rushmore. Conceived as a two-person monument, the plans were for a tribute to Bun Man and Mr Purple, but the first carvers started cutting 4 figures into the mountain.

Quickly, Danish-American Sculptor Gutzon Borglum and his son, Lincoln Borglum, reconceptualized the drawings and 4 American Presidents were immortalized. The Boyz ended up w/ the rights to the tourist shop so it wasn't a total loss.

ON this date in 1943 - "Is You is or is You Ain’t My Baby?" by Louis Jordan and His Tympany Five was released.

Bun Man and Mr. Purple, Cub Reporters for Variety, interviewed Mr. Jordan about his release.

P asked the question, "Louie, I hope I can call you Louie, where did you find such an inventive use of grammar for the song's title?"

Without hesitation, Mr. Jordan (apparently he wasn't too keen on the Louie thing) replied "Facebook, man, facebook..."

Roxie: Morning Dogger, a question…
KD: Okay…
R: Am I an individual or am I a group?
KD: You’re always an individual, but sometimes part of a group. Why do you ask?
R: Well, when I’m an individual, peeps take to me; when I’m in a group, trouble starts.
KD: The personal becomes impersonal…
R: So, we need more personal touch?
KD: Yes, the Hammer doesn’t seem to be working to bring peeps together.
