There's a trend in libraries to call the people who go to them "customers".

Bullshit.

We're not selling them a product. We're not monetizing them. They are our patrons. And for me, that's how I will refer to them.

@LiberalLibrarian

Funny story.
The big library in town near me, has a parking garage next door, run by the city. It charges money to park. And a big sign that used to say "library, customer parking here".... the Library board finally got them to change it to read..."library patron parking free". And remove all the parking meters.

It was a 4 year fight.

@LiberalLibrarian I was a paying patron until most of the local libraries by me went fine free. I was notorious for returning stuff late. πŸ˜‚

I figured my fines were my contribution to the libraries.

@AverageCitizen Yep! My library, LA County, went fine-free last year. It costs more to collect fines than the fines are worth. (If you lose a book, then you'll get charged. But other than that? We just want the materials back.)
