Okay, Boomers... I come from a military family background. Grandpa, dad, uncles - they all served. And retirement was what you did after twenty years in the service. Most went on to work another 20-30 years in another field and retire again.
Please explain to me what I'm missing and why you see being considered retirement age is a slight. I've got some disconnect between lived experience and what you obviously feel about retirement.
@MidnightRider I have teens, they leave me with no illusions.
And I started doing this (yes, originally on Twitter) because of headlines about Millennials when the articles talked about teens.
@LianaBrooks Kids thinking their parents aren't as smart as them probably goes back to cave drawings. An entire segment of society doggin another segment based on age and mannerism is quite a different thing but you aren't wrong, you did get a sample platter.
@LianaBrooks yes, you have a disconnect. however, i'm not a teacher or even a decent communicator so not going anywhere but to tools.
in closing, physical age isn't everything.
@annamousse My ancient joints and health problems usually associated with centenarians agree with you. I'm 41 and I have the bones of 112yo.
Genes are funky.
@LianaBrooks Military careers offer lifetime medical care and generous pensions. Work in the private sector gets you a layoff, no pension, nothing unless you’re a CEO with a golden parachute. Social Security alone is not nearly enough to fund a comfortable retirement. It’s up to the workers to fund their own 401k accounts over the years.
What?
Excuse me.
I Retired at 65, with less than 10K in the bank, and a combined income of a union Pension and Social Security, of about 32K a year. Now, after a year or so, I did go back to part-time work, but not because of money. I was bored. Then at 69 I completely retired. I own a house and land. The land is paid for, the house mortgage, and taxes are doable. I am not rich, but comfortable.
@LianaBrooks I'm a baby boomer, retired and went back to work, SS doesn't even pay my rent here in Mass. I don't think you realize it but "boomer" itself is a slight.
@LianaBrooks Not trying to counter attack or be offensive, just saying our truths. I mean the OK Boomer phenomenon was unnecessary and may I add short sighted. If you believe the "kids" behind you are going to author thank you cards and cheers for your contributions and thoughts on society you might be in for a surprise.
