If you think your phone is likely to be searched or you have anything on there that the police might want deleted:

- backup to the cloud

- email to someone you trust (or your second email)

Bringing a burner phone with no apps to protests is a good idea.

If you're looking for an editor this summer, my next opening is in August. I'd love to work with you!

Not every editor edits like this. Not every author wants that. But I grew up in the House Of Why and I believe in explaining why we're making changes instead of leaving the writer to guess.

With clients I've worked with before there's usually fewer notes in a Line Edit because I can leave a reminder of what they already know. With a new client whose background I don't know, I'm going to explain why I recommend a change the first time.

"Why do developmental and line edits take 4-6 weeks?"

Because there's a lot more going on then just quick notes and fixing typos. I'm 30 pages into a client's book and have over 5000 words of notes in the margins, plus a page long editing letter.

"This is the law!"

So was slavery. So was genocide. So were a lot of historical atrocities.

Being legal doesn't make something right.

If the law allows hate crimes, it's wrong. You as an individual can make a better choice.

I will probably enjoy it while I'm there (I like meeting new people). It's just not something I'm excited about now.

But it's also an all day event followed by a blacktie dinner.

My social skills feel nonexistent today and tomorrow I need to be 100% cheerful and peppy because we're going to an international meet-n-greet shindig where I need to appear wholesome, well-educated, and correctly represent the firm.

I really wish writing paid me enough to avoid things like this.

Florida's 6 week abortion ban went into effect. The graphic in the article is sobering. The impact does not stop at the FL border.

"Women in Miami who are beyond six weeks will now need to travel more than 700 miles to reach the nearest clinics — in Charlotte, N.C., where state law requires two visits spread over three days."

It's and I look forward to seeing all your art.

It's 9am on my last free-ish, work-from-home day of the week. Let's see what we can get done.

*stares at to-do list*

Wish me luck, y'all.

When we look at historic works through a modern lens all the jewels don't make sense. To us, that's decoration and there to be pretty. For the people growing up, those gems were the family's wealth on display. A woman's dowry full of gems was her emergency fund.

is doing an excellent job reminding viewers that the ladies back in the day didn't wear jewels for the glam of it all, they wore jewels because that was their currency. Their gold hairpins were money they kept with them.

"Mom, I had a 'college student bright idea' and the glass pan shattered."

- my overly honest kid

“I would caution taking NYPD at their word on this because they kept reporters at a distance and released their own footage.”

- Errol Louis on NY1

The police in the USA have such a habit of lying that the news reporters who rely on the police for protection don't even trust them any more.

I'm really missing Twitter and the threads on Hong Kong and Arab Spring protests right now. I am pro-protest and pro-protesting smart.

- wear a mask
- bring an umbrella
- sunscreen
- lawyer's # in permanent marker somewhere
- clean phone w/ no apps
- have a plan for the police

You cannot de-escalate a protest by violently attacking anyone, least of all the press reporters or anyone disabled.
