When your elderly relative conflates a white supremicist threatening a Black woman with a firearm and destroying her property with people defacing a crisis pregnancy center.

I can't change her perspective. I know that. I'm here to help her because she can't live entirely alone. But there are days I want to weep. 😭

This is the same person who is one of the kindest, most compassionate people you'll ever meet. To everyone.

@VelvetDuchess I am a little mind boggled that this seems to be news. Because I have known for years that it was the Republicans, who, arranged for the Americans to be held in your run by the back door dealings with the Iranians. They were willing to sacrifice Americans to win an election for Ronald Reagan. Or is this just the first time it was verified, instead of widely known, without verification and admission? Ronald Reagan was a punk. And so for everybody who supported him and I did not.

@Dreaw404 sadly, that is the case, even if they have a female OB/GYN. I don’t know what is going on in America that this would happen, except for the possibility that black women are not getting the same levels of insurance and care that most white women do.

# coffee

I had a late night last night. M y dog woke me at 5 AM, and I’m just dying’ here. There may not be enough coffee in the known universe.

@AmberD1116 I wish my dog would do this. She was raised rather oddly, and I’ve never been able to teach her the joys of fetching.

So the neighbor kid shot out my daughter's glass screen door with a hand crank BB gun. It could have hit my daughter, her husband, or their dog. It can do as much tissue damage as a low-velocity firearm.

Cops notified. No charges filed—this time. The parents are upset with the kid. But it's on them for not teaching adequate firearm safety rules.

There's 40 inches of snow there. Let them shovel off excess energy for a few days. Lucky they didn't give them an AR-15.

@MeTheUnfiltered That works until someone reports it. I could screen shot something here. I create graphics as part of what I do these days. That's not the point, in reality. The point is suppression of competition.

@MeTheUnfiltered I have been beaten up for using the term Coso. I have been beaten up for using CounterSocial without the period. I just basically see if people wanna talk to me about it that they can either personal message me or send me an email. They don’t care anymore of whether or not it’s a link. And every time I think I’ve removed everything they find something else they are going back and dredging the system. Of course, they are also doing this with references to Mastodon.

Not beaten up by the FB AI. Yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Me: Bad storms. 🌩️ Tornado activity. 🌪️

My daughter in NH: 40 inches of snow overnight, No power for 30 hours.❄️ ⛄

Trees and flowers near me: Welcome to allergy season! We survived the storms and we're out to get'cha. 🌺

Weather gods rubbing hands together: Going to freeze those buds out in two days. 😈

Sister: I bought a composter. 😇

Me: We don't have a garden. Our lawn has been dug up and turned into rocks. Where does the compost go? 🤷 😕

@VenessaG @mcfate like I said transmogrification, it’s going to be a part of the series going forward. And it’s more of an issue for a woman that becomes a male Bogert who didn’t really want to become one.

I don’t know if you’ve read Jack Chalker’s work when he was still alive, but he did a lot of transmogrification. And basically people just were. And so I think that maybe I need to remove the pronouns.

@VenessaG @mcfate in this particular universe There is a different sense of what is important. Gender orientation isn’t particularly important. It’s just something that is.

What makes this somewhat challenging is what I’m going to have to look is that a person who is trans can go to a very powerful magic worker and literally become another gender. And she’s not the only person in this particular novel it happens to you if you think about the transmogrification of Jack Chalker.

@ianthealy Urban fantasy. He’s a magic worker. Talented asshole. Sometimes we deal with assholery with very talented people, but he crosses the line several times over.

@ianthealy Ugh. When I interact with people (at the store, online, etc.) I do my best to treat them the way I'd like to be treated. Even if I'm unhappy about a company policy, I say, "You work here and have no control. This is not on you."

A clerk who was serving me took extra time to examine a billing I swore was wrong and said, "Oh, I see what happened." And fixed it. I thanked her for being so understanding and helpful.

She went out of her way because I was unhappy, but kind.

@ianthealy consistent pronouns regarding the describing one character being consistent throughout?

It's jarring enough that I may find new identifiers. The more I revise the more I find that it detracts more than it provides necessary information.

Thankfully, search and replace can help with that task.

In YA it might be an easier row to hoe.

@walterbays I get the tangent. And yes, when I took French in high school and college I goggled at inanimate objects having a gender.

I've already concluded I need to remove almost all of the pronouns and find a way to revise the areas where someone is referring to the character's recent phone call, etc.

There is, in fact, one character who has a bee in his bonnet about the character being transgendered. Of course, he wouldn't ever use the preferred pronouns.

@mcfate re: hir/her? If someone is not there, how would they know?

Granted, if the speakers always use that term it's easier to remember. It's an inclusive environment. The problem is the critique group who want it all torn out.

I do find that if it's everywhere it's hard for even me to read without slowing down. So I'm starting to understand the objections.

Question. I have a character who choses the personal pronouns of ze/hir to fit a certain profile.

As I am going through revisions I feel like I'm in the La Brea tarpits having all other characters respect her choices whenever they mention her.

"Is ze coming?"

As opposed to: "Is she coming?"

Would to be reasonable to limit the use of ze/hir to being in her presence or in official communications?

A local high school librarian resigned after the hoards of Christian fascists reduced the books in her library to 47.

The facists are coming after the books in the city library as well.
