The entire program that I am piloting centers around STEM students. Since the majority of my students are from marginalized communities, I’m teaching them how to develop an academic portfolio that they can take with them to their next program and give also to employers.

I’m going to teach them how to keep a proper research notebook, how to present data, and give them an opportunity to speak at a conference of sorts.

I have absolutely no funding at all for this program. However, my predecessor was really savvy with getting lots of materials and instruments.

They have been sitting there unused for a while. So, I’m instituting high impact practices that include undergraduate research, service learning, academic portfolios, and community outreach.

I do have to say it’s tough because I’m literally the chemistry department at this campus. It’s just me

Soooo i’m doing an entirely new thing in one particular southern state that nobody does because it’s a southern state… and people there do not embrace science so much.

I have access to really awesome instruments. So, I’m going to teach undergraduate students how to use them… i’m also going to teach them how to do proper research.

They can get paid as well if they qualify for work study. I don’t really talk about specifically where I work because of weirdos. But this is cool
