So I have a job offer with few facts so far.
What; Environmental (archaeology) monitor.
Who; some railroad. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
Where; some location between the Canadian border and Louisiana TBD. πŸ˜†
Beginning; possibly April, or as late as July. Maybe.πŸ€”
Rate; Good hourly, per diem, motel, mileage.πŸ‘
Background security check.πŸ‘
Prehire drug test. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ
Which we've now scheduled for 30 days out, as I told them I have a med card but will lay off until I can pass.
Guess I'll be drinking more. πŸ₯ƒ
Cuz that makes sense. 😎

Well things are firming up. I've done more background and security and drug checks for this job than all jobs I've ever had combined.

Location is in eastern Iowa, near Debuque. Duration is 3 months to a year or more, depending which of a couple locations I choose.

Schedule is 5-6 days, sometimes 7? No rotational time off -- just there for the duration. Gonna have to chat with them about that when I have more leverage.

According to prelim information, there is really no reason for me to be there. No archaeology known or expected. Minimum environmental issues. So I'm going to occupy a vehicle 6 days inspecting a mile or so R.O.W. with almost no duties but filling out a no impact noted report, and time sheet.

This is going to be a struggle to maintain sanity. Depends if I can work/study other things in my truck for much of the day, or if I'm expected to "lean on a shovel" all day.

@FireMonkey Best of luck! RR's can be very good employers. Related(?)- Our union drug testing went pretty much dormant during covid and just started issuing random test notifications 6 or 7 months ago. I'm the guy who has to initiate and deliver testing and notices to our field guys and I noted a small check box on the web form to not test for THC (which I checked). 3 months later, they made it official, THC is no longer a component of the test panel. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

@Ironworker229

As it shouldn't be. I'll talk with my contact who is sending me for testing to see if his form has the same option. Thanks for the info.

@Ironworker229
Well, I tried. He sympathizes, but it's up to the client, the RR. No worries, I'll just abstain. There's plenty of time.

Anyone have recommendations on cleanse products?

@FireMonkey @Ironworker229
Marijuana is stored in fat, so you can try to lose weight now and then be gaining it when you get screened. It's pretty unpredictable though.

@EileenKCarpenter @Ironworker229

I've been clean since the first post I made, about the first of the month, and I just went and tested today. Should be fine.🀞

@FireMonkey You never know. They found Richard III when they were putting in a parking lot.

@EileenKCarpenter
True that. I just don't think there's going to be much excavation. It's installing a new track.

But there's always hope I'll come across an extinct North American Dragon @Beanc
