If I make a one-time donation to a charity, and then they proceed to spend the equivalent of that amount mailing me solicitations for more money, and then they sell my address to similar charities who also spend money mailing me, I’m not inclined to think that any of my money helps the cause I originally donated to.
gotta check the ratings before donating...places with high ratings I've donated to have never mailed me a single solicitation...they'll email/text, but not paper mail
@EileenKCarpenter this happened to me when I donated to the charity for the recovery/rebuilding the Notre-Dame Cathedral. I still get letters and cards from them.
@scottyorange
This one was to deliver supplies to families snowed in by an unusual blizzard on an Indian reservation, so it was a one time donation to a one time need being met by an agency that normally addresses other needs — not the sort of thing where you could shop for a better charity.
that's why i don't give to such. i prefer to directly help when i can.
any others, i check on the %age they spend on promotion solicitations, CEOs' salary, etc.
@EileenKCarpenter
I hate that happens every year.
