Talking to a couple of folks - both extremely religious, both Cuban immigrants, both waffling.
Me: I'm sure Stephen Miller isn't talking about Cubans when he references denaturalizing and deporting Hispanics and Latinos. I mean, the Cuban Adjustment Act was passed in '66 - no one would go back and undo accepted law.
Wow, serious shocked Pikachu faces.
Good.
Cosmic Jr. on a James Spader binge. I suggested Boston Legal.
Now I'm rewatching Boston Legal.
What an excellent show it was. Got all misty when Betty White showed up.
The full Howard Stern interview with Kamala Harris.
New Harris ad. Trump vs. Detroit.
I really enjoy my job and I have a great team that is really starting to hit their stride. I'm fully remote, have terrific work-life balance, great benefits.
All that said, I had a head hunter reach out with an absolutely head spinning position. Insane money, options, bonus, fully remote, great company. But corporate, with all that entails.
Golly. Think I should have the conversation or sensibly stick with the position that absolutely fits my life and not play with the greed fire?
A properly secured and load balanced crane won't do this. There is time, money, and math involved.
Weathervane mode is only good up to about 100 MPH. They knew it was going to be higher than that.
Save a dime, spend a dollar.
If you are wondering - sending drives to a vendor to shred or a PD to melt is risk mitigation.
Telling end users to install Linux, wipe and then encrypt their drives, then drill them equals - drill the drives (so no one can check the other parts were done) and own the risk of that.
Complexity discourages compliance. 🤷
Me: I need information on our drive shredding vendor and procedure.
Security: We don't have a drive shredding vendor. You should install Linux from a USB drive, wipe the drive and then encrypt it before drilling it.
Me: Wot? Why?
Security: You can't trust vendors.
Me: OK, can we hand them over to the PD for melting down?
Security: Wot? How is that secure?
It has the date of the assassination attempt stamped on it as "The Day God Intervened"
Because that's not blasphemy or anything.

Facebook post to a guy in Tampa (not including the YouTube link because I'm not gonna promote amateur MAGA cowboys shoveling disinformation):
"I don't know if you can read the post, but here's the link (The guy prides himself on calling things early, and he really hates NOAA and the like, so it's rather comical to watch him)"
Hyuk, hyuk.
I cannot even.
Oh wait - now he's back and insisting he's not going to the shelter - more viral moments, moar money. Insisting it's a showdown (on camera) with the government who can't force him to leave, blah blah blah.
Did I mention he's a "content creator"?
Sigh.
There are REAL aid groups helping REAL people. And this guy is sucking up the oxygen.
Let me provide a concrete example:
When I was trapped at the BP (closed) on the mountain in Helene, a gentleman brought in gas from SC and identified the nearest open station.
We topped off 20-25 cars to make sure they all had enough gas to make it to the station and pulled out.
Had we used that gas on a few cars to get to their final destination? Three cars instead of 20+.
I don't know who in the "price gouging is important to maintain supply and demand" crowd needs to hear this, but...
It's MUCH more efficient and saves more people to cap the amount of gas at the level needed to reach the next station than to allow a few people go get enough gas to travel beyond the red/yellow zone.
It's literally how we revolutionized JIT supply chains, FFS.
