Just because I feel like it today.

Americans always speak of "American exceptionalism" and how "we are the best country in the world."
Once upon a time, I imagine that was true. We were the beacon. The place where innovation happened. The place of opportunity.
Now, if anyone reads the statistics for even a few minutes (education, likelihood of class mobility, air & water quality, vacation time/ maternity leave, wages vs. cost of living, crime, healthcare, infant mortality, life expectancy ... etc, etc, etc.......)

If you still cling to that notion, and take PERSONAL offense at suggestions that it's no longer true .........
That's not patriotism. The need to believe that the group you're part of is the best?
That's the psychological disorder known as "collective narcissism."
