binocular astronomy from Mum’s yard in
Was unable to observe comet but did some nice naked eye observing of Crux/southern cross, pointers etc (simulated image from SkySafari Pro)

At my astronomy club’s observatory a couple hours north of Toronto under dark skies, where I store my telescope, for the first time in years; last here pre pandemic. Also I don’t have a car so have to play the rental game which is nutso and crazy expensive nowadays

Just looking at conjunction of Venus and Jupiter low in western sky; clouds moving in. Will set soon so try to see soon if you can.

Just came in from looking at Venus and Jupiter low in the western sky, with a bonus pretty Moon overhead

Try to look at the “celestial dance” of the conjunction between Venus and Jupiter in the western sky after dark over the next few days, if it is clear where you are. No equipment needed.

Being at the bbq has given me some nice views lately; Venus (low next to tree) and Jupiter in the western sky.

For any insomniacs who are awake atm too, look outside low to the SE sky if it is clear where you are.
Pretty 🌙 crescent Moon rising.
Also saw a neighbour who was also awake. 😁

Sad to read that author Terence Dickinson has died, age 79.
His book “Nightwatch” is a seminal work for all interested in
Met him at the star party Starfest and showed him my dew stained beat up version of the book- which he happily signed.
Thank you, Terence and RIP.

David Levy, the hunter (comet Shoemaker Levy 9 among other discoveries) has said “Comets are like cats. They have tails and do exactly as they please”.

Ground based observatories are easier to access and maintain, and are cheaper than observatories in space. It's one reason why we need to avoid light pollution and spacejunk caused by things like and other satellite constellations.
This image of the southern Milky Way contains over 3 BILLION stars, and was taken from Earth (Dark Energy camera at Cerro Tellolo in Chile), a place where varied countries collaborate.

It's been so long since I observed a naked-eye or binocular , but maybe this one will get close enough and stay bright enough to see from Canada?

Info about Comet 2022 E3 (ZTF) from the Planetary Society.
In a couple of weeks will start looking for it in NW sky pre dawn (yeah, I know). Not too far from Polaris.

Was outside bbq’ing salmon (it is -3C but don’t want to stink up the house) and was looking at Jupiter high in SSW sky (image). Also high in E sky are two orangey objects; Mars and the “eye of the bull” Aldebran in the Hyades. Also indicated in pic is Capella just N of them.

Clear skies in . and (looks orange) rising in the East (image) and Jupiter also bright naked eye due South -

If it’s clear, look after dark to the West to see the Summer Triangle disappearing… not too late to see these before the Winter constellations take precedence - no equipment needed

-3C, 6.30am, The (waning crescent, though you can’t tell from crappy photo hence the SkySafari screen cap) and Arcturus (star to the left, also called alpha bootes) looking very pretty this calm, cool morning
