@WordsmithFL why stop there? With his background he should also run for the second circuit court judicial seat and the Episcopalian diocese of Florida (the bishopric is currently vacant I believe). If he's running for office he can't be investigated, right? that's the schtick? #politics
@CarmenSlamdiego Florida doesn't seem to care much about electing corrupt people. It's all about who will spew rhetoric that gets their endorphins flowing.
@WordsmithFL I think he has achieved his maximum in politics. He's old baggage at this point.
@danielbsmith Maybe he skips politics and goes straight to his Fox News pundit gig. π
Possibly. Possibly.
2/3 vote to expel works out to 290 votes, if everyone shows up to vote.
If the clean resolution vote yesterday is any indication, they could very well have that number.
Assuming I worked the math on that correctly. I'm now having doubts. π
@Tarnagh Well, we know all the Democrats would be aboard ...
The question remains, do enough House Republicans have the spine to defy Trump, who will stand with Gaetz?
Well. The majority of them went against his direct orders to let the government default.
So, probably? Maybe?
@Tarnagh It will be entertaining, if nothing else ... πΏ
@WordsmithFL I question the timing. If they have the goods then they've had them for a while. Why not before? Now it's convenient. It's not about ethics. π
@danielbsmith Why not before? A good blackmailer knows there's value in holding on to blackmail.
The DOJ didn't feel they had enough to indict, and the State of Florida did squat, so maybe it's not enough to bring legal charges but it's enough to bring political charges. After all, they're running an impeachment inquiry without evidence.
Years ago, Rubio was on the ropes because of a credit card scandal, but the state GOP chair pled guilty rather than testify to what Rubio had scammed.
@WordsmithFL
Which begs the question, If you are expelled from Congress for criminal activity does that lesson or improve your political standing in the view of the voters?
@KGinKS In Florida ... probably yes.
I mentioned upstream that, during his first Senate run, Rubio was on the ropes due to a credit card scandal. He was living high on the hog off his Florida GOP credit card. But the state GOP circled the wagons rather than expose his corruption.
I'm surprised the credit card scandal doesn't come up.
#Politics If Gaetz were expelled from the House, some #Florida pundits think he'll challenge Senator Rick Scott in the 2024 primary.
Ron DeSantis is term-limited; the governor position comes up for election in November 2026. Gaetz is expected to run for that too.
