This is a great read about what's going on in FL property insurance.

We have friends who just had to sell & move bc their insurance went UP by $8500.00 year!

Average homeowners' insurance here is now $6000.00? vs $1500.00 per yr in most the US?

I like the quote "Insurance can tell you things about reality"

I don't exactly love insurance in general, but that is a true statement right there.

@VictoriaLandis1 --One of the tragedies created by DeSantis was that he convened a separate legislative session at the end of 2021 to address the property insurance issues in the state. Once the legislature convened DeSantis dropped any effort to address property insurance revisions to pursue his 'Don't Say Gay' agenda. A large portion of the GOP fails to realize that their government has failed them. But these folks are so enamored with the MAGA ideology that they don't care.

@s3friedman

Many of them are discovering that now. Insurance inspectors who wrote damage reports after Hurricane Ian are complaining that the final settlements are a fraction of the payable amounts the inspectors recommended for the insured homeowners.

@VictoriaLandis1 --I don't doubt that one bit. The P&C industry was able to use the lack of hurricane or flood insurance to deny benefits to policy holders. The idea of living on a landfill in Southwest Florida, without proper insurance coverage is nutty. This is especially so given that FL is in the path of most hurricanes that strike the continental US.

@VictoriaLandis1 The irony is all the New Yorker's who fled high taxes are right back to expensive living.

@MidnightRider

With far more risk than they ever faced before, I'm sure.

@VictoriaLandis1 When I was a cub I wanted to live in Florida, but as an adult it wasn't even on my move radar. The heat, bugs and other aspects make it a no go for me.

@LnzyHou @MidnightRider

Luckily, haven't seen 'em in Key Largo, but they are popping up from under their rocks - everywhere, not just FL.

@LnzyHou @VictoriaLandis1 He's more a Mussolini guy, probably knows a good meatball when he has one.

@SECRET_ASIAN_MAN @VictoriaLandis1 Their most hilarious whining of all time? Moved New Yorkers infuriated at more New Yorkers moving to Florida. 😂

@Bix @InUnfunky

It's getting harder and harder. I do plan to move next year. Luckily, I saw this coming a while back & sold my house in 2018. We rent down here & also quite luckily, our landlord owns his properties in full, built them to withstand a Cat 6, and doesn't insure them. So our rent goes up only a minimal amount, like $50.00 a month last year.

@Bix @VictoriaLandis1

Weenie Mussolini bailed out the reinsurance bros so crisis averted (for the bros) for now.

My fellow Flurduh man HamNo sho’ can rite hissef up a jeremiad or two, huh? Hey Bixie, ‘memba when he told us men don’t wear shorts? Well ah nevuh! 🤣

@VictoriaLandis1 Your friends' insurance went up by the same amount I used to pay in rent for a year when I lived there! And I lived on South Beach a block from the water. Granted, that was pre-gentrification, but still. I think the mortgage payment on my parent's house was less than that. I wonder what the plan is when nobody can afford to rent or buy a place to live.
