I've also noticed that I have a tendency to sit VERY STILL and VERY TENSELY for long periods of time when I'm reading war news, or diving into the worst parts of the internet to try to verify related claims.

Do you do that, too?

Maybe we should stop doing that.

Get your "active minutes" in between sordid sessions at the console.

I promise - unfortunately - that the atrocity will still be there for you when you get back in more limber form.

@MLClark

I keep finding myself holding my breath.

@tyghebright

SLOW BREATH IN, TYGHE!

1 humanitarian nightmare~
2 humanitarian nightmares~
3 humanitarian nightmares~

HOLD FOR THREE MORE

SLOW BREATH OUT

1 offloading of fault for it all~
2 offloadings of fault for it all~
3 offloadings of fault for it all~

HOLD FOR THREE MORE

THEN BEGIN (like the whole world needs to right now but definitely won't!) AGAIN

@MLClark Earpods are helpful for that. Get up and do other things while you are listening to updates. It's somehow calming to be putting your immediate environment in order while you are listening to the global chaos. (I want to know, but I also need to be mindful of my mental/physical health.)

@MLClark I think that's a natural defensive reaction to a threat, real or perceived.

When I was in law enforcement, I saw colleagues freeze up in real time, even if second-hand.

If one keeps moving, it helps burn off the natural adrenaline rush.

When I worked dispatch, I always wore a headset with a long cord so I could move around and keep active.

@MLClark

Get up. Walk about.
Listen to music, dance.
Snack.
Do anything but sit there.

Just now between the first report of hospital strike in Gaza, and new reports. I got up, turned on music loud, and went into kitchen and put a pot roast in the slow cooker.

@corlin

These are all good things, Corlin.

I especially love that you're going to have some wonderful smells coming your way as the day progresses.
