What do you call the place where you connect the hose on the outside of your house? I just learned a new one and want to see if this is a regional thing, or I've just been obtuse for years

@Kurtroedeger We say hose bib down in the SE. Not sure why not faucet, or outside faucet, or something like that. 🤷

@Kurtroedeger Hose bib up North. Just learned that term a couple of years ago, myself!

@arthurpendragon @Kurtroedeger

Spigot, tap, or faucet. Almost always with the adjective “outside.”

@Kurtroedeger Growing up in Massachusetts, I heard it called a spigot or a faucet.

@Kurtroedeger the plumber who replaced ours called it a hose bib, so that's what i call it now too.

@rpardee @Kurtroedeger
Had both of mine replaced a couple three years back... Frost free and he even installed a 90 degree shutoff valve inside... Not like winters get that cold anymore but just another bit of protection...

@InvaderGzim @rpardee I'm installing a new one today. I just learned wall hydrant as that is what the box and shelf labels had. I tend to call it a spigot or hose bib normally.

@Kurtroedeger @rpardee
The plumber used pex. Unless you're an expert with a torch and solder... 😊

@InvaderGzim @rpardee
Now to wait 2 hours for the ovs to cure.
Not my cleanest work, especially when I drop the bottle of primer 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
The dog kennel goes in front of this, so no big deal. I don't need a pristine off-white water heater.

OH DEAR. THIS POST WAS SET TO SELF-DETONATE 💣 💥 🔥

@0x56 @Kurtroedeger

Me on migraine days... "That thing... Outside... Water..."

Husband: The hose?

Me: no no no *makes hand turning motion while looking pained and frustrated*

@Kurtroedeger Most direct translation is wall hydrant or outdoor hydrant/tap.

@Kurtroedeger I call it faucet, but know it’s a hose bib. Kinda like I call it a bubbler but know it’s a drinking fountain.

@Kurtroedeger In plumber-speak, it's a hose bib and is so denoted on most blueprints. I grew up calling it a faucet, but I've heard it called a hose bib. "Wall hydrant" is new to me. I've never heard it called that.

@POOetryma that's what the box and the label on the store shelf called it and was new to me too

@Kurtroedeger if I'm hooking up a hose I call it a faucet. If I'm buying one in the store it's a hose bib

@Kurtroedeger Hose bib or spigot (sometimes pronounced spicket back home in Central NY).

@Kurtroedeger

Spigot, but I've heard many others except for wall hydrant.
