Well, I did it. I finally bought a subwoofer. I was going to upgrade my inexpensive bookshelf speakers to towers, but this was the far more cost-effective solution and those bookshelves still sound fantastic.
RSL Speedwoofer 10S mkII is on its way. That would get me down to 18 Hz with room gain. 😎
@sonnybillglover
I just placed the order. $50 off on Halloween closeout special.
@voltronic I suspect it’s an audio myth that towers are more capable than bookshelf speakers. It depends on a number of things, but it’s not such a certainty.
I tend to favor bookshelf speakers on stands, as they can more easily be moved away from walls, which is usually a much bigger deal for imaging.
I hope you enjoy the new arrangement!
@MookyTroubadour @voltronic
100% agreed. In this scenario the crossover (and amplifier configuration) becomes quite important, but the results can be (opinion) mind-boggling.
@codeWhisperer
The Audyssey room correction in my receiver should make it very simple to integrate, too. No manual setting of crossover and phase.
@voltronic @codeWhisperer Denon/Marantz amp?
@MookyTroubadour
Yes, a somewhat older but good Denon AVR-S710. I only use the main L/R channels, so this will wind up being a 2.1 setup.
@voltronic I've followed both of you (@voltronic and @MookyTroubadour ) long enough to know that you both know your schtuff. @voltronic I hope you'll share your sound review after you've received and configured your 10S mkII. I'm anxious to hear how it goes! 😃
@codeWhisperer
Definitely. I've already started building a new test playlist.
@voltronic that will send the bass joy.
@voltronic Oooh, you're bringing the boom. 🎉
@voltronic
So…..how’s it shakin’? 🎶😎
