New phone is rocking. I have to say that sticking with #Samsung for my last several #Android phones has always made the transition super easy. Smart switch is fantastic. Just connect the two phones, and copy over what you want. You have to manually log into all your apps on the new device, but must other things are ready to go right away.
It Just Works.™
@voltronic
No wire needed.
Just bring new into close proximity to old phone. New phone will prompt. Say yes, old phone will prompt, say yes. Walk away.
All apps, and sign in’s and passwords transfer. Everything except some 2F. Not using Apple keychain.
Better than using the iCloud method.
@corlin
Ah, good that they do the same thing. I always thought the iCloud business was a cumbersome way to go.
You actually can do it all wirelessly with Samsung phones, but I prefer the wired method since it's a bit faster.
@voltronic
Yep the same.
I have done it twice with iPads.
No flaws. And since I use a OnlyKey. I wait till it’s done, plug in key. Two clicks latter, it too is all set up.
@voltronic you can do it wirelessly peer to peer or wired if you have a lightning camera adapter. Or you can upload to iCloud and restore to the new phone.
@voltronic I'm still on an iphone XS and got a Samsung S7 tablet this year. I was really impressed with how much I was able to sync the two using Smart Switch. It's got me thinking hard about making a Samsung phone my next daily driver.
@Fellixe
I definitely recommend this A53 I just got for only $350. Mrs. V has had the A52 for several months now.
Flagship Samsung phones are no longer as attractive to me because they no longer have microSD slots (mandatory for me) and their prices have gotten ridiculous.
@voltronic I recently got a new Samsung A52 and transition from my older Samsung was so seamless and so easy. I'm well pleased with that
@morgansher
That's what Mrs. V got when her S10e screen broke a second time and it wasn't worth paying that much again.
I just got an A53. Both are great phones.
@voltronic Samsung makes a good product. I still miss RIM's Blackberry and it's a pity they didn't adapt fast enough to make their phone OS compatible with Android. #sigh
I keep things sync'd to cloud. Last Samsung I got (S20+) transferred without needing a cable. Super easy.
Snark aside, does #Apple have a similar function where you connect the old and new phones together with a cable for bulk app and data copy? Or do you still need to involve a desktop or laptop iTunes sync from the old device and again to the new device?
