Another show is annoying me with "oh, I don't think I could marry a cop". Television loves to make it look like it's because of their hours and threats to their life. The domestic violence shelter taught me it's because when you run, they will use their badge to find you. They had to have a system in place to help women hide, and it didn't always work. They can never stop running.
@GlytchMeister It's totally one of those careers that draws predatory people who love power and control.
The worst thing about that 40% number is that it represents the number of cops willing to admit they were abusive. I'm willing to bet the actual number is higher.
@Tarnagh @GlytchMeister Good point.
@tippitiwichet unfortunately, it's the wolves watching the ships. If you work in a beat that has a women's shelter in it, you have to know its location because there's time where you have to respond quickly there. So your only avenue is to find a safe house that's not on anyone's radar.
@tirebiter73 Usually this was done by quietly shipping the woman to another state, very quickly, hopefully even before they realize she's gone to a shelter. Also, the safe houses tend to be on people's radar. An abusive family member in air conditioning repair brags about having worked on the AC at the shelter, and people in the neighborhood were always talking about the shelter, and exactly where it was. I was thankful they had locking gates and security cameras.
@tippitiwichet
And something like 40% of cops are abusive to their families. So not only are abusive cops particularly hard to escape, cops in general are WAY more likely to be abusive.
Save your life, don’t fuck a cop.
