Another show is annoying me with "oh, I don't think I could marry a cop". Television loves to make it look like it's because of their hours and threats to their life. The domestic violence shelter taught me it's because when you run, they will use their badge to find you. They had to have a system in place to help women hide, and it didn't always work. They can never stop running.
@tirebiter73 Usually this was done by quietly shipping the woman to another state, very quickly, hopefully even before they realize she's gone to a shelter. Also, the safe houses tend to be on people's radar. An abusive family member in air conditioning repair brags about having worked on the AC at the shelter, and people in the neighborhood were always talking about the shelter, and exactly where it was. I was thankful they had locking gates and security cameras.
