I spoke to the doc today about my increased anxiety. He prescribed low dose beta blockers to reduce my adrenaline output.
Hoping it will help.
It really sucks that so many of our coherent mental responses to a stressful world can only be addressed via individual medical treatments. Imagine a world where socioeconomic drivers of anxiety were addressed collectively as well!
(But I'm super glad you sought out and are receiving the care that's available - even if we all 100% deserve better. ๐ซ)
@MLClark โค๏ธ I am also seeking talking therapy and hoping that life will be kind enough that the overall stress and anxiety will reduce as a whole. ๐ซ
@stueytheround medication and talk therapy have been helpful to me. Working the process and being patient is hard. Keep chipping away at it buddy.
@stueytheround @MLClark I can't resist adding more. There is a lot of horrible stuff happening in. The world, the US elections will impact the world. That's a lot to stress about. That is a rational reaction. Now pile on other life events happening that are also stress inducing. It's ok to be stressed about stressful things, it's normal. You will get through it. ๐
@SimplyZippy Yep. All true. ๐ค๐ผ๐ฅ๐ค๐ผ @MLClark
@stueytheround I hope so too. Take care.
Finding what works for you is a journey. You have already taken the first steps. Be proud of how far you have come and know you are not alone!
@stueytheround I hope you feel better. I have anxiety too, it's so damned disruptive and uncomfortable.

@haggardmom75 I feel like I've done several hundred abdominal crunches. Wish I had the six pack to show for it ๐คฃ๐คฃ
@stueytheround Right?! ๐
@stueytheround Fingers crossed that this and the talk therapy do the trick. Anxiety is there for a reason.Sadly, it doesn't stop when no longer needed for survival. Been dealing with this for so long myself. I did a meditative yoga class that really helped, offered by a counseling agency.Sadly, my insurance changed and I could no longer do it. It was held in a local church once a week. Wish I could still do it. Learning to control the body's response thru breathing and thought is priceless.
@BlueStateBabe Thanks. I'm going to try a few approaches and see which fits best. Something compatible with my faith would be amazing. Prayer and mindfulness practices are very closely related for instance.
@stueytheround Oh, definitely. While this was not religion based specifically, I realized during the process that this served a similar function as prayer - deliberately directing the mind to a more peaceful state.
In a related "class" we learned how to control the body's physiological processes. For example, splashing the face with cold water causes the body reflexes to respond in a way that breaks spiraling anxiety/strong emotion.
