I used to know one woman from russia. she is a Jew, we had warm relationship. in 2014 when russia invaded, she packed her bags and left for Israel. she explained to me: "things will go downwards from here for us. I don't want to wait until violence is full swing"
I often think about how spot on was her decision. very smart lady indeed (she is still in Israel, living a happy life)

There is a song "warriors of the light" by Belarus music band that took political stand years ago and later relocated to Ukraine (I think they are now Ukrainian citizens) - Lyapis Trubetskoy. This song was an unofficial anthem of 2014 revolution in Ukraine. There are so many connections, symbols... Like puzzle pieces falling into place.

The dress, designed by Lesia Patoka, is called βWarrior of Lightβ & symbolizes Ukraineβs fight against the darkness. Miss Ukraine is portraying a variation on the archangel Michael with a sword protecting Ukraine. The costume was made in four months without electricity, and by candlelight. Her jumpsuit is meant to symbolise armour, and is covered by a modern vyshyvanka, a traditional Ukrainian garment. The wings are the colours of the Ukrainian flag."

on demographics - the state of it is even worse than we might think.
years ago I've read a bbc article about russian hiv positive women. how they live, how they got infected. I was shocked to learn that there are whole cities in russia where the population is 100% hiv positive (at least). and this is just ONE thing..
