Hello, this is my first post on COSO. I'm looking for alternatives to Twitter. What do you like about COSO? #Introductions
@pyager Hello Hello, new user! I joined yesterday and am LOVING IT, Trying to figure out how to follow topics I like but so far the experience has been lovely.
@Firewarrior005 @pyager search the tag or topic you want, click it.
Then click the settings button on the column that shows, and you can pin it.
@Firewarrior005 @pyager
Oh! Also, once it's pinned, if there are similar phrases to the topic you also want to follow, you can add them to the same column as well!
@pyager hello.
@pyager As others have already said -- that it's not Twitter. I couldn't read the stuff I wanted to over there because the Almighty Algorithm was always trying to tick me off. (And it was good at it.)
@pyager Friendly, welcoming community. No flame wars. Find your people & your space. Hello from a relative newbie 🤚
@pyager Hey there. I’ve been here about a week and everyone has been very welcoming. Glad to see ya👋
@pyager hello #noob... U am too. Just over a week. Couple things I've learned, hashtags are your friend... click on them or put one in your post. #help will get you lots of advice or go to help.counter.social in your browser (just learned this one on the weekend)
Mostly, be patient... sometimes it's because there are so many people fleeing the Twit that it's too much. If you see a 502 Bad Gateway from Cloudflare don't panic, try again in a few minutes. Oh and Welcome 😁🇨🇦
@Rjbaze @pyager Maybe you don't know this yet, but you can edit posts here. 🙂 All you have to do is click the 3 dots beside the star at the bottom of your post & select "delete and re-edit". It doesn't actually delete it--it goes back into the reply box where you can make your changes, then click "post" again. 🙂
@ChillySnowgirl @pyager cool, thanks! Tried finding an edit and long holding the post but didn't work on my cell. Good to know!
@ChillySnowgirl @Rjbaze Thanks for the tip. This seems like a fun site so far. I like all the "extras" over your typical Mastodon instance.
@pyager
Thanks for going PRO 🥰
Welcome to CoSo 🥰
Here is the User Guide:

Some suggestions:
Try # cosotips & @CoSoTips
CoSo community is built on hashtags, so look 👀 at the extensive list of #s in the guide.
Follow a few folks from the Firehose who interest you and settle into a friendly community.
Also, we love pet/animal pics. Here’s my cat saying ”stop with the pics” 🤣💕🤣
@pyager - Welcome!
There are lots of very helpful folks here if you have questions.
It won’t take long to get the vibe of the place. There’s a nice sense of community here. It’s not about getting the most followers or self-promotion. Trolls are quickly neutralized. Lots of pictures of #cats and #dogs. A good place to chill.
The newly updated #COSOUserGuide is an awesome resource and can be found at

I like creating my own "firehose" by putting a lot of related hashtags together so I see things that interest me in one column.
I like the welcoming community aspect.
I like the free interchange of ideas without the f'd up abuse element.
Yep, you got the hang of it. You can also go a little overboard (see pic 1), so be picky. Also, if UNpin a tag column, it loses all its tags: make the column again, you're back to just 1.
Also, while you're all still now, may I suggest you start curating lists of ppl. Group ppl you follow into lists of different subjects and then you can pin the list to see just them in that column (also demo in that pic).
Besides the help link, I have a basic graphic for you in pic 2.
@pyager The community and no bots and trolls.
@pyager Welcome! I like that there are no bots, trolls are squashed quickly, and it's just an overall much more pleasant experience. You can have conversations with differing opinions without it becoming a screaming, insult-fest.
Most people here are very kind.
There is no doomscrolling.
Instead of logging off in a foul mood it's often a better mood.

That it's not Twitter.
