Something thatโs been on my mind recently and Iโve mentioned these memories before but in the context of Musk I do think it bears repeating.
1987. Not that long ago right? Now I was about to hit my teens. Iโm not much younger than Elon. Moved to South Africa. He lived in Pretoria, me Joโburg.
We arrived. Within a couple of weeks we had our own maid. If you didnโt take a maid in people would be at your door every day begging you to give them a job. A maid was paid peanuts.
It's a weird thing, I can't make large purchases without it actually making me feel ill. I want to enjoy and be excited I'm getting a computer today but I actually feel nauseous. It's always the same.
I do not enjoy buying myself what I see are frivolities (even if they aren't)
I put it down to financial instability when I was growing up.
Shit sticks with you.
From AP
"White voters make up a bulk of the voting electorate in the United States, and they did not shift their support significantly at the national level compared to 2020.
A majority of white voters cast their ballot for Trump, unchanged from the 2020 election that he narrowly lost. About 4 in 10 white voters backed Harris, which is about the same as Biden received in 2020."

Monstrous as he is, Trump is no outlier. He is the distillation of capitalist pseudo-democracy. His values, entirely extrinsic โ fixated on prestige, status, image, fame, power and wealth โ are the dominant values projected for years on to every screen and into every mind. His criminality is the systemโs criminality. His abuse of women, of staff, of customers... of ecosystems, is the abuse the majority of the worldโs people have suffered for centuries.
