Biden urges Americans to โ€œBring down the temperatureโ€

Yeah, not what he meant but maybe we couldโ€™ve sorted that one out over the last 50 years.

From AP

"White voters make up a bulk of the voting electorate in the United States, and they did not shift their support significantly at the national level compared to 2020.

A majority of white voters cast their ballot for Trump, unchanged from the 2020 election that he narrowly lost. About 4 in 10 white voters backed Harris, which is about the same as Biden received in 2020."

@ChrisPierson

and for perspective it would take the average worker in the UK, if they spent nothing, around 500,000 years to make that.

Beyond obscene.

Monstrous as he is, Trump is no outlier. He is the distillation of capitalist pseudo-democracy. His values, entirely extrinsic โ€“ fixated on prestige, status, image, fame, power and wealth โ€“ are the dominant values projected for years on to every screen and into every mind. His criminality is the systemโ€™s criminality. His abuse of women, of staff, of customers... of ecosystems, is the abuse the majority of the worldโ€™s people have suffered for centuries.

@singlemaltgirl sadly no, Iโ€™m from Uniomist roots, I only know a few words.

@JanetZumba_FalPals ha! If you have the money we have open arms ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

Seriously itโ€™s not nice to see this โ€œIreland is fullโ€ bollox. Still a minority view but overall sentiment is something needs done.

Been a year of elections, the Taoiseach confirms Irish election for Nov 29.

Thankfully a lot less drama than US or UK. Itโ€™ll be a given that the status Quo will remain, but who knows, crazy times. It will be interesting to see what uptick the right gets. Biggest issues in Ireland are same as anywhere really, housing, health, migration.

If Western Politicians were wise, and wanted to prevent the march towards madness, theyโ€™d pull out all the stops to sort out economic inequality, housing, bread and butter issues.

But I donโ€™t think theyโ€™re wise.

@ecksmc now Iโ€™m singing that feckin Whitney Houston song ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

UK: Brexit
World: ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿคฃ :facepalm: ๐Ÿคก
US: Hold my beer.

OK I don't do positivity but those who say it's all over, what's the point?

Please don't. you may not have lived through anything like this but plenty people the world over have lived through and will live through worse.

Pick yourself up, you live in the richest and most powerful Country on the planet that still, in spite of everything has a sizeable population that believes in liberal values.

Pretty muted congrats from Ireland

"Congratulations to US President-elect
@realDonaldTrump
on your victory. The people of the United States have spoken and Ireland will work to deepen and strengthen the historic and unbreakable bonds between our people and our nations in the years ahead. The world faces many challenges and needs leadership to meet them.

With the US and Irelandโ€™s shared commitment to democracy and international law, we can, and will, tackle these challenges."

@homebird ๐Ÿ’š As an athiest, on matters of faith I have no comfort. However, world has been in darker places in the past. Take each day as it comes
