Industry’s sugar substitute E961 can have ‘toxic effect on health’, says study finding sweetener capable of damaging intestinal bacteria
@poemblaze pretty recent additive to replace aspartame
@poemblaze We’ve started making all our treats. Really trying to stop using as much processed food as possible. Including sugar.
@poemblaze @process I have been on a quest to make cookies or brownies that don't have sugar in them. So far, what I have managed to create is baked dirt.
I don't usually miss sugar, but I do miss cookies and brownies.
@AskTheDevil @poemblaze mostly oatcake type things we are making. Banana/figs/bit of dark chocolate, that sort of thing for sweetness
@AskTheDevil @process Baked dirt is less than appetizing.
@poemblaze @process I agree. My baking skills are apparently not up to the task of replacing what sugar does in the baking process.
Stevia works nicely in most baking. It's super sweet, so you have to adjust down. It makes a fabulous key lime pie. 😋
@Cosmichomicide @process I use Stevia when I make pancakes. I may eventually become braver and try to make more things.
@process All I know is sugar will kill me, so I have to use something else. Would be nice if it weren't also deadly.
