@Eulimnadia @corlin On Twitter, I follow mostly bond and equity traders, good journalists, foreign policy people, and financial news outlets. So, that's just not my experience on Twitter, but I'm coming to understand that many people on CoSo see it that way, which is very interesting to learn.

@WILDKATZ @th3j35t3r @FrankCannon @kel Yep, I meant "more like Twitter" when I said "best," and not surprisingly that's created a rather negative reaction! It had to be interesting from J's point of view to see loads of people migrating here from Twitter as Musk took over, but I can see how that could get out of hand culturally if too many people came en masse.

@Shilohx @lenaoflune I've been having this convo with many different people--just trying to get my head around why people are adverse to the whole quoting thing.

@DualReality69 @th3j35t3r No, that's interesting, thanks. I'm always curious what people mean when they use that phrase.

@Shilohx Very interesting comment. Thanks. I think this comment was also tracking along the same lines, but I wasn't sure what she meant by "main characters." I didn't realize that view was out there about quoting messages.

@th3j35t3r I know you were on that thread, and I feel like this is subtweeting me. When I don't understand something, I just ask questions to try to understand other people's points of view. I'm trying to have a legit conversation and it's helpful (at least for me) to learn and understand. I hope you don't think I was sealioning anyone.

@DualReality69 @th3j35t3r So, serious Q. When you say "msm" what does that mean to you? Are all major newspapers like NYT and WaPo? Is FoxNews? Is your local paper? How about your local television station?

Just incredibly fascinated by the various forms of social media and how they each have such unique (and powerful) cultures. LinkedIn is so diff from FB which is diff than IG which is wildly diff than Match.com which is nothing like Twitter, or Snap, or Discord, or Reddit. Obviously, CoSo ain't Twitter, and that's a good thing. But could CoSo be better with quoting? I still think it would.

@DualReality69 @th3j35t3r Sorry, but that's just a straight up conspiracy theorists view of the world. The vast majority of journalists and editors are excellent and generally ethical.

@kel @th3j35t3r Probably why Jester is constantly linking to tweets on his feed here. He's using twitter to get information quickly and using CoSo to share it to his followers and have convo's about it.

@kel @th3j35t3r Sure, but I'd rather have both over here. But maybe that's not possible either for technical reasons or cultural ones. Again, all very interesting to me.

@kel @th3j35t3r Maybe the primary difference is the difference between being a place to rapidly share information versus a place to have conversations. Quoting helps rapidly share information. On Twitter, I follow people all over the world. Used to trade extensively. Extraordinary how fast critical trading info surfaces on Twitter. Usu know market moving info within seconds. Here, not so much. Not bad, just different.

@kel @th3j35t3r I meant "tension" in the sense of a tension between two extremes, in this case a small community and a large one.

@DualReality69 @th3j35t3r And I do like it, and like the culture of this community. I just also think it would be more usable for me if you could quote message. I also think it would attract more information providers (esp news papers).

@DualReality69 @th3j35t3r Yep, I've been following or following along with Jester from before he started it over on the bird site, but finally got an account here after Musk acq'd it.

@kel @th3j35t3r Interesting. I get why folks would want to be part of a small group server on Masto, but I sort of thought CoSo was meant to be more of a general use site than a very limited community. It's an interesting tension.

@kel @th3j35t3r Just said this to someone else, but the clicking and pasting required to share information on here is just ridiculous. And seriously, you wouldn't want the New York Times to have an account on here? Really?

@corlin I mean, seriously, the clicking and pasting required on this site to pass along links is ridiculous.

@corlin Then I have to copy the link and paste it into a post. That's a complete pain! Why can't i just quote it?

@kel @th3j35t3r What if I want to pass along an article from the NYTs? Have a convo among my followers? I don't want to have that conversation under the NYT (or other general info provider's) account. Does the NYT have a COSO account? No, and that might well be why.
