A live thread on the New Zealand Supreme Court ruling that limiting voting to 18+ years of age is unjustified discrimination: stuff.co.nz/national/politics/

I agree with some scheme for enfranchising all citizens and residents in a democracy.

For those of you who like the weird/small/indie web, the 10K Club has homepages of 10 KB or fewer: 10kbclub.com/

@miinx How kind. I am just a normal guy, but I want to help build something that will benefit the world long after I have left it. If you think you are motivated to edit on Wikipedia and its sister projects, let me know. (And, based purely on your profile here, I think you are pretty kewl yourself.) :3

If you want some more good news, a study by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory finds multiple pathways by which the United States can achieve 100% renewable energy by 2035: energy.gov/eere/articles/nrel-

America has done some great things because (as John F. Kennedy put it) they were hard. I hope this is one of them.

Tho I have not personally checked this for accessibility, I stand behind this color palette for being beautiful and logical: iamkate.com/data/12-bit-rainbo

@heatherdale Good news, thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, war fatigue is setting in with some of us in the West, but if we relent, we will open the door to untold amounts of aggression and human suffering in the future. I am a pacifist, but I recognize that this is an extremely difficult situation and all levers to isolate the Russian state need to be on the table.

Some of you out there may have taken a break from politics due to exhaustion. In case you want a brief take-away from the mid-term election cycle in the United States: npr.org/2022/11/19/1137824289/

I would rate this a 6/10 and I expected a 3/10, so it was basically an 8/10.

@corlin Congress has broad authority to regulate itself and can kick out its own members without any particular process (e.g. impeachment is actually _impossible_ for House members). That said, it is rare and House leadership are loathe to do it (e.g. see how Marjorie Taylor was merely removed from committee assignments rather than expelled). They are generally conservative about essentially overturning an election. So, from my perspective, that is a no-go for changing House power.

@Expecting_Words Speaking as someone who has brain problems, agreed. :/ I got four hours this morning, so that is something.

The Infinite Conversation is both a harbinger of a horror world to come and my version of those pods that everyone lived in in Wall-E: infiniteconversation.com/

@RussellC Yeah, and unfortunately, I somehow failed to point out how I _disagree_ with many of his perspectives, but they are still valuable to know. I am sure you will be a good addition around here: who could argue with those gorgeous Scottish hills?

Oh, and that last toot was a _disagree_, not agree, but such is tooting when you've gotten 20 hours of sleep in the past three weeks. :/

Hello, Twitter refugees. As some of you know, I go back-and-forth on Mastodon usage: I am already at peak Internet and I refuse to get sucked into the bad patterns of social media.

If any of you want some perspective on how some Fediverse oldheads feel about the Twitter exodus, take a look here (I agree with him a lot, but his perspective is trenchant and useful): hughrundle.net/home-invasion/

Also, welcome!

@IrelandTorin Well, I appreciate your comments, no matter when they appear, Torin.
