@0x56
It's not an earthquake.
It's an urban renewal project!

Humanity has mostly been comprised of philistines for much of its history.

Primal interests.
Primal needs.
Survival-focused coupled with a rational mind.

Now that we are less concerned, day to day, about survival, some of humanity is less primal and driven by survival instincts.

This group tends to look forward. It projects the potential of humanity and desires to get there quickly.

But the philistines hold everyone back.

This situation has been improving all along, but slowly.

@corlin
Shit.
This supports a theory I have that humanity once had a mind-altering virus that made us all stupid. It may have taken generations to grow out of it. We can't tell from the fossil record. Maybe the dark ages had such a virus?

@Museek
Kids have not yet learned empathy.
Some never do.
The scary part about this is that children have not yet realized that what people think about them is not really a threat anymore. It's a primal reaction. When we needed friends to warn us about the tiger about to eat us, not having the support of friends could get you killed. Not anymore.

Whenever we use a word to label something, we define a scope / limit to what it is.
We don't always agree to what that scope or limit is.
This is a source of many frustrating arguments.

For instance, when does something deserve the label "Life"? What threshold is crossed? When does it pass back over that threshold, and is that always called "Death"?

We all think we know the answer, but this is at the root of much disgust and animosity in many cultures.

@mcfate
Yes, but for someone like me that engages too many projects, I need techniques to maintain a sense of control.

The first defense at avoiding frustration is to avoid putting yourself in the situation that can cause frustration.

The second defense, when you cannot avoid it, is to recognize that the situation is likely to become frustrating, so anticipate it and celebrate your foresight.

@GlytchMeister
I stay away from the evil empire's products. They annoy me more than Mercedes.

@ProfessorC
I'll start using that line on my wife (who was getting really annoyed at me while in the passenger seat).

I just spent a chunk of my afternoon swearing at my car.
The bluetooth fails to connect so that I can play music.

What is at the root of my anger?

Helplessness?
Powerlessness?
Friction in my ability to drive safely?
Feeling like a sucker because I spent so much to have a nice vehicle that shouldn't have issues like this?

Why not just let it go?

War is the wrong place for good men - - Amos Burton, The Expanse

When does the transition to "War" occur?

"There is no price for the best victim" - - Chrisjen Avasarala, The Expanse.
Seems like Kyrsten Sinema could use that insight.

Looks like Chris Miller, Acting Sec. of Defense under T*, kept the National Guard from coming to the rescue of the Capitol on January 6th.

The data is out there, but hardly in a format that Google Maps can consume.
This has been a long effort for a novice programmer to automate the data-pull, format the SQL (crosstabs), export the data (scheduled task), manually calculate the concentrations using population data in Excel, formatting the results in Excel to build the JSON, and finally getting the javascript to read it into Google Maps.
Ultimately this will be fully automated if I don't have a nervous breakdown!

@Alt_Human
Not really. Full of young people. Lots of socializing at bars and restaurants. The area is called The Marina.
