Interesting idea, but it has a flaw. Harris’s approval numbers are worse than Biden’s. And, she’s a woman of color to boot. How about this? Harris bows out so that Biden can have a strong VP candidate able to take over when necessary. Folks wouldn’t trust Harris in that role. Biden ain’t gonna quit before the election, so there needs to be a good alternative VP in place.

@johnldeboer Biden is Trump’s best asset now. National abortion ban inbound. Forced Christianity imminent. Regardless of anyone’s personal feelings Harris pushed reparations and the country has zero appetite for that at the moment. The Democrats lost on Thursday, that’s the reality. I don’t like it but it is what it is.

@MidnightRider @johnldeboer

And yet Biden had his biggest fundraising day ever after the debate.

I don't think most people pay attention to the debates--though they do hear the spin afterwards.

That media is failing to focus on Trump's incoherence and lies is the problem.

@tyghebright Oh I want Walter from Dunham’s puppets as the best bd choice, I just can’t see him winning now.

@tyghebright Also Democrats allowing Trump to escape the big trials while they slept was a bad move too. Raping felonious president, just wow!

@johnldeboer maybe think of a better idea that doesn’t bow down to racists.

@kendonnelly You can’t lead from the rear of the sled pack Ken. If there is no appeal to some of the wavering voters then you need the consensus of the resolute voters and the Democrats don’t have that.

@johnldeboer The base of the Democratic Party is black women. What happens if you discard a black woman for a white person?

@johnldeboer Also, polls have been very inaccurate since 2016. Not sure it’s a good idea to make decisions based on such poor quality polling.

@TetsuKaba @johnldeboer
Part of the VP job is to not steal focus from the president.

I want someone who has been sitting in those cabinet meetings and can pick up the baton on day 1. I think Buttigieg would be great in debates, but if you're worried about voters with biases, he is in the same position as Harris.

When canvassing for Hillary, I was surprised how many Black men won't consider a female candidate. They get too little respect as men themselves.

@AlphaCentauri @TetsuKaba @johnldeboer I had no trouble with Kamala myself. Neither do other black men I know.

@junation @TetsuKaba @johnldeboer
Nor the Black men in my neighborhood. It was younger men in rough neighborhoods.

@AlphaCentauri Doesn’t surprise me, and I think Hispanic men have the same mindset overall. And white men won’t admit it!

@AlphaCentauri @johnldeboer How many of those men actually vote? One of the difficulties of modern polling seems to be capturing low propensity voters. A lot of people came out to vote in 2016 for Drumpf never voted before. 2020 they didn’t vote in as high numbers (how many died of Covid?). This election year seems like pollsters are trying to capture their info. Just some difficult to answer questions. I have no idea what the best answer is, just that we have to keep fascists out of office.

@TetsuKaba You’re assuming the alternative would be white. Not necessarily. And it could still be a woman, though I still think Americans aren’t ready yet for a woman president, and let’s face it, that’s what we’re talking about - the VP taking over in a Biden second term either through death or the 25th Amendment. But you’re right - being seen as forcing Harris out would be a bad move. Harris would have to do it herself “for the good of the country.”

@johnldeboer
Any change on the Democratic ticket will make MAGA the winner and the US Gilead. Also, respectfully, WTF do you mean about Harris not being strong?

@publickovacs Strong electorally, if you’re honest. It showed when she ran for president, and it shows now in poll after poll, though a big reason for that, I’m sure, is her being first in line for the presidency.

@johnldeboer Harris has actually been the heroine of the damage control from the debate. Now you toss her aside? I have what may be an unpopular opinion. Yes, Biden had a lousy performance but the Democrat bedwetting in response has added to the damage. Let's step back for a second. We've been "Riden with Biden" since before 2020. He has basically a bad half of a debate and the response is "Oops, our bad?" Replacing him now is admitting defeat.

@junation Even Harris pointed out Biden’s bad performance. But jeez, of course she’d be openly supportive. She’s on the ticket!
