I'm replacing my Ring doorbells today. I have two, one for the front door and one for the outer courtyard door, and they pick up everything from cars driving by and the postman dropping off mail to a little bat who hunts mosquitos in my courtyard.

What they do not pick up are Amazon deliveries. Neither the truck nor the delivery guy trigger the motion sensor or video recording on either Ring camera.

They either turn the Rings off as the Amazon truck pulls up or they use a jammer. Creepy.

I have other professional cameras installed around the exterior of the home so I'm able to see the Amazon truck pull up, the driver walk past the first doorbell, place the package at the front door in front of the second doorbell, step back a few feet and snap a photo of the box in front of the door, and then walk out.

The professional cameras are hardwired, so a wifi jammer (illegal) wouldn't work.

@jjmacnab Well, and good news, your cameras can't be used to give ICE footage...

@jjmacnab Horsefeathers LOL Amazon deliveries trigger my ring every time & they don't even deliver to my door (they put packages at the garage). To stop the cars triggering your ring, you have to set up zones. Once I set the zone a few feet inside the curb=good.

If you actually believe the driver is jamming your Ring you need to report that to Amazon. I don't believe for a second that Amazon is turning your Ring off as telling you a delivery is there is one of the best reasons to have a ring.

@TrueBloodNet I don't want to stop the cars from triggering the cameras. I'm familiar with setting up zones.

@jjmacnab This is super creepy, but I’m having a hard time understanding why they would want to block that video at all. Don’t they want to assure their drivers are in ‘protected’ locations, and packages are delivered in good condition. It would protect the drivers and the packages they deliver, so…what ARE they worried about?

@jjmacnab

I've read posts on Reddit where some drivers get tired of being heckled and harassed by people with Rings, and some take steps to avoid that. Not necessarily with their company's blessing, mind you.

I know it's illegal, but damn it's tempting, because I'm sick of getting yelled & whistled at by people's home security systems when I'm walking my dogs *in the street*. I started flipping off each one every time I pass by hoping they'd get the hint. 😂 (One has!)

@jjmacnab

This has been reported, in various forms, on the Ring forums, Reddit, etc. for years - for Amazon, FedEx, USPS, UPS, etc.

It feels less related to anything malicious as the general unreliability of un-wired signals and the fact all the package services carry scanning devices.

I have a Gen1 Ring and it's a great video doorbell. As a security or package cam? Eh, hit or miss.

Now, about privacy and security - EFF has a LOT to say about Ring - eff.org/search/site/ring

@jjmacnab

Anyone looking for a security device is probably better off going with a more expensive closed circuit system.

I love my Ring, but I have it purely because we never use the front door, hardwiring is not an option (old house) and I like to screen the cookie sellers (bring 'em on) from the Witnesses.

Oh and I like to laugh at the folks on Neighbors convinced everything is gunfire. 🤣
