I'd like to advance the counter-intuitive notion that America, not just the U.S. but all of it from northern Greenland to Tierra del Fuego, is not an extension of "Western Civilization" and should not waste its time trying or pretending to be.
Rather, it's a variety of unique blends of heritage, starting with native americans and then with european, african, middle eastern, and asian cultures blended in on top. To look solely to Europe for American heritage is to try to create a fake reality.
It's no mystery why
