My county (Alameda County in the Bay Area) has officially instituted an Italy-style shelter in place policy for the next 3 weeks: http://www.acphd.org/2019-ncov.aspx
I've heard a lot of people comparing their preparations to getting ready for a hurricane, but for that, you can at least (theoretically) flee. This feels more like preparing for a siege - something I've never experienced, which in turn brings home to me just how privileged my life has been thus far #coronavirus

How to differentiate between allergies and coronavirus
Allergies do NOT trigger:
- Chills,
- Body aches
- Fevers
Those are the classic signs of a viral infection, such as covid-19.
NOT usually found with Corona virus/#Covid19:
- Nasal congestion (Only 5 percent patients in China had nasal congestion).
- Sore throat. (Only 14 percent of patients in China had a sore throat).

@MarianneWerzOBrien I completely understand why people are stocking up, but I found it hilarious that the spam shelves were getting emptied, while so many other products that would be just as practical were fully stocked and even on sale. Most people will probably never eat what they've bought and end up throwing it away!
Saw a few empty shelves at my local supermarket...spam and toilet paper seemed to be popular choices. I do agree that having one probably leads to needing the other!
