@Render Jesus. I have a ton more sympathy for Ukraine and its people at this moment than for any Russian soldier there, but I’m not a fan of individual human suffering, and that is some fucked up mess to be in. I don’t want them to succeed, either. They should still be at home in Russia. Their leaders just completely suck.
@th3j35t3r I mean...DID he realize? He’s just still trundling around yelling “wtf is going on?!”
@MovieNights Killing me with irony or fear? That movie gave me nightmares as a kid.
Compare these two maps.
On the left the Russian media version.
On the right the OSINT version.
Imagine the utter disillusionment of the Russian people when the real truth hits them in the form of an utterly wrecked army with 50,000+ casualties (not there yet, but rapidly heading that way) and no ground held at all but that which they stand on.
Situation map March 4th.
Reminder that the arrows indicate slim single road columns and not ground held.
Russians are trying to protect their supply columns with BTR-80 wheeled APC's. It's not helping, they're just losing the BTR-80's as well.
Spearheads at 1, 2, 3, and 6 did their usual. Drove until they ran out of gas and then abandoned their vehicles there.
4 and 5 met with considerable opposition, again. 5 is where the Russian general was killed.
Good Night Coso and
Happy birthday to Italian painter Rosalia Amon (1825-1855), born #OnThisDay 197 years ago!
The native Sicilian Rosalia Amon was one of the few women who had the opportunity to study painting at the Vienna Academy. She participated in the class given by Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller and specialised in floral still lifes, which she executed hyper-realistically.

Putin wants all of Ukraine. He's made that very clear. I'm not sure if his military can deliver it (because they suck at logistics), but they are already positioned to make the attempt. We might see a rump state consisting of the remnants of western Ukraine or we might see a Ukrainian government in exile in Poland.
Either way we need to hope that Poland and Romania are ready to handle a lot of Ukrainian refugees.
Hi, folks! So it's been a while since I last logged in here, but I've got a question for y'all.
I want to help fight disinformation. I can't volunteer in the ground war in Ukraine, but I'm a good researcher. But all the places who are looking for help never email me back.
What can I do? Can y'all point me in the right direction so I can fire?
@Desmblake @Render That tweet threads very fast to gruesome images. Just a heads-up to CoSoNauts who’d prefer not to see.
I don’t know enough to say whether this is a good analysis, or not. Reading it, it felt compelling. But an expert could tell me it’s not. Anyone in a position to say? https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1499325076080054272.html
@voltronic They do have some night vision gear. They have a combination of poorly made Russian gear, off the shelf Chinese made civilian gear, and hellishly expensive Chinese military gear (reserved for aircraft).
Ukraine has been quietly purchasing top quality US, EU, Israeli, and Japanese military night vision gear of all sorts ever since their special forces in Afghanistan found out how valuable it is in 2008.
I'm so tired. But I love the world.
