Many of those 53K people and the millions of other brainwashed cretins were essential to an important part of the overall plot: generate unfettered doubt and distrust in government and elections. Construct a landscape in which traditional Republicans completely lose control of Congress and defiers of MAGA dogma are purged. Find any and all loyalists. Pressure institutionalists via their constituents. All of this was necessary.

@BrentSullivan I'm not saying what they did was right, in fact it was horrendous and completely anti American. I'm also not saying to have any compassion for them whatsoever. I'm only saying that it was the project of Trump and his enablers to brainwash enough people into believing they were patriots and saviors.

@StevenSavage you're right but Musk, Thiel, and other ultra libertarians have been having wet dreams for years about dismantling our pluralist democracy and remaking America into the unfettered capitalist utopia of the universe. The chances are high that if Trump doesn't win, they have contingencies in place. I'd say there's a 70% chance that if Trump gets in, these amoral assholes will get his "loyal" cabinet to invoke the 25A and install their errand boy Vance.

@Liliki there is no way they're letting him leave the country unless he somehow gets smuggled out. My guess is that, given his previous access to national secrets, the US would either trick him into going somewhere where he could be captured or end up assassinating him. Winning this election may be his only choice.

@thanoskalamidas TBH, I felt like I was reading about the 2020 election. Biden has largely been through the ringer and most of the obstacles you mention like the judiciary have been in place for 3.5 years. While Harris is less adept at statecraft and doesn't have the same international relationships as him, she could simply stay the course and continue the success of this administration. She won't of course but she has lots of sage advisors. Divisiveness is not the issue. Democracy is.

@StevenSavage I think he loves to cause consternation and chaos and I'm afraid that he and Thiel and Musk have something brewing that gives him the confidence to only pander to his base and forget about a real ground game.
