They added an area code in 1947, one of the first in the nation but nobody needed to use it when we were kids. They split 914 up into many different areas codes around the year 2000. My dad, who moved from NY to FL in 2014 still keeps a MagicJack "landline" with an 845 area code.

@CinnamonGirlE in July I'm moving with my family to Spain for a year. Maintaining our current US mobile numbers is going to be a challenge.
