@AskTheDevil At some point I'll be assembling a secondary machine for storage only. I'm not very trusting of cloud services, especially onedrive since microsoft is a necessary evil to me lol
@voltronic Yeah I recognize I made some poor decisions in reaction to the situation. I'm going to see if there are any files that are recoverable. I'm fine with parting ways with most of my data, just a couple things I'm hoping I can manage to pull out of the ether.
I'm also reliant on some software that linux doesn't support, and compatibility layers don't give me much confidence.
@voltronic My bet is I did something at some point without realizing it. Not quite sure, but I'll just deal with the consequences if so.
@voltronic Couldn't boot, and when I booted into the win installer (yes I know, I'd stick to some flavor of linux if I didn't rely on windows for certain things) it showed a single partition that was in mbr. It was originally set with two main parts with the usual two additional sys ones. Had to delete the part and install fresh. I'm 100% accepting I might have jumped the gun on the reinstall and probably could have done a bit more if I made a new puppy usb drive or other bootable distro.
@Honeybee0427 I considered it, but I'm a bit particular and felt a bit too iffy on it. I have half a mind once I make a dedicated storage tower to run a script that clones my drives every night on it's own.
@MrGoat I appreciate the thought, though I'd rather not. I've got more important things going on than just the loss of data.
@voltronic My current setup is run entirely off one single 1tb WD drive. My old drive died a painful screeching death years ago. I have my laptop which was my 'backup' of sorts, but it's missing a lot of stuff. I think I have ~1 month of stuff missing, and even then it's only of things like my art and music projects. I really should have invested in at least a secondary for storage.
@MrGoat I was planning on getting a few drives for that reason, but since last year I haven't had the funds to do so. When things pick back up I'll probably work towards making a nas for a full paranoid level backup and preservation.
@MrGoat Ah it's too late for most recovery options. It was my os drive on my main PC, which I'm currently using after a fresh install. I might be able to use some recovery software to dig up anything that wasn't overwritten since I didn't have to do any formatting, but I accept it's all gone at this point.
@altamaha Better get the candles, just in case.
@th3j35t3r Feels nice not having to be told what to do with your own creation huh?
@Ellico2020bis Hell yeah. You could totally pay me to push that around.
@Ellico2020bis I'd be the best little fisher price distance measuring thing roller.
@GlytchMeister @Heucuva8 @Mrs_Bones @Thumprhare I can definitely do guest appearances!
(I may or may not be some flavor of undead)
@WhiteRose Really interesting the progress AI has made over the past few years.
