Had my hardrive corrupt and lost all my art/music/etc. Haven't backed up in a while, and even then it was selective. Back up your shit folks, I can't even begin to estimate how much I lost.

@glassramen If it's a WD you can get a one time courtesy try of back up might try

@glassramen youll have to send them the disk though and wait a while

@MrGoat Ah it's too late for most recovery options. It was my os drive on my main PC, which I'm currently using after a fresh install. I might be able to use some recovery software to dig up anything that wasn't overwritten since I didn't have to do any formatting, but I accept it's all gone at this point.

@glassramen right on, got it, i do all work on non os drive just for that reason. maybe you add a disk for work stuffs.

@MrGoat I was planning on getting a few drives for that reason, but since last year I haven't had the funds to do so. When things pick back up I'll probably work towards making a nas for a full paranoid level backup and preservation.

@glassramen We could get some folks to aid you a funds for another drive possibly. I'm not financially in a position to buy you one right now or I would <3

@MrGoat I appreciate the thought, though I'd rather not. I've got more important things going on than just the loss of data.

@glassramen

That sucks! I'm sorry it happened to. It's probably an oversimplification, but they have a bunch of companies that do automatic cloud backups, so that you don't have to remember to do anything. Maybe try that going forward? They'll either send you the data, or you can redownload it.

@Honeybee0427 I considered it, but I'm a bit particular and felt a bit too iffy on it. I have half a mind once I make a dedicated storage tower to run a script that clones my drives every night on it's own.

@glassramen I have gotten to where I have two large hard drives - one for backup from the machines in the house, and the other to back up that hard drive.

I've gotten dubious of many cloud services, or don't want to pay for them, but using one as a secondary (not primary) backup can't hurt, neither.

@AskTheDevil At some point I'll be assembling a secondary machine for storage only. I'm not very trusting of cloud services, especially onedrive since microsoft is a necessary evil to me lol
