I first got into audiobooks when I had a job that required me to drive for up to 6 hours a day. With that much windshield time, I quickly grew tired of FM radio and music in general and needed something besides the conservative talk radio programs that dominated the AM airwaves. With audiobooks (at that time on tape and CD), I found myself looking forward to the windshield time.

How do you not file your income taxes for 5 years? I get nervous if it's 11:59 PM on the deadline and I haven't gotten a confirmation email yet that they've received my paperwork.

I suspect a friend is experiencing a cognitive decline but I'm not sure how to approach her about it. She's begun to frequently repeat herself and doesn't seem to be aware that she's doing it. For example, she's now told me the same story 3X in about 5 weeks and it does not seem she remembers telling it to me previously.

@AnnetteTRemain Signal messages aren't necessarily disappearing by default, they have to be set that way. It's unusual for Signal users to switch back and forth between regular (encrypted) messages and disappearing (encrypted) messages. Most pick a mode and stick with it.

@thewebrecluse One of my previous employers offered the choice of a 30-minute paid lunch or a 60-minute unpaid lunch. You were stuck with whatever you chose for 90 days before you could switch. It was an interesting approach I haven't heard of anywhere else.

Back when I first started working, anything over 8 hours in a day was paid as overtime. Any work hours scheduled on a Sunday were also paid as overtime. A few years later, overtime became anything over 40 hours for the week, and Sundays were paid as regular time. There's been a steady shift to weaseling out of paying overtime.
