Just got off the phone with a young gal I know. We met in a NA meting, she is clean about two years, but very unhappy. She enrolled in a community college, and is flunking out because she is bored, and sees no hope of getting a good paying job out of it.

We talked about building trades apprenticeships, and so she did some research. Turns out all the the local building trade unions are hard up for apprentices. She now is very excited about her future.

Consider apprenticeship !

@corlin Cool. Has she decided what she wants to do- which trade?

@BillieBun

Right now she is going to Interview for both the electricians and the masons union.

I asked why masons?
She said "I'm strong, and love geometry."

@corlin
College studying can be an isolated experience, but learning and doing side-by-side with the experienced is in our nature and better for many. Wishing her the best!

@corlin πŸŽ‰ πŸŽ‰ Awesome solution finding ❀️ ❀️ I know women in recovery that have gotten into everything from welding, heavy equipment operating, firefighting to auto mechanics as well as the "traditional" degrees like nurse and social worker !

@Tattoomonkey29
Yep.
It is good news.
She is a farm girl, cattle rancher, and horse person.
She will do well in a trade.

@corlin After many years of teaching on vocational and some academic courses in a further education college my Mum was the liaison between the student, the college and the employer. Apprentices are vital and either carry on working for their employer or move on easily to something just as good or better. With the introduction of NVQs it is now possible to get levels 6, 7 or 8 (Bachelor, Master and Doctorate) so no need to go and get debt to go to University.

@Mandypar
Yes.
I wish this was better known in the general public.

There are opportunities out there.

@corlin

great. trades need people now. for man6 people, academics is not satisfying, hands on is good in so many ways.

i'm glad she got good advice πŸ‘ŒπŸ½πŸ™πŸ»
