(is it me, and my current mood? Or does this also creep you out?)
NEW Boston Dynamics Robot
We are unveiling the next generation of humanoid robots—a fully electric Atlas robot designed for real-world applications.
"The Cylons were created by man."
@corlin I do find them a bit creepy but at the same time I think they're cool.
@corlin it's creepy.
@corlin I find it creepy but I also fantasize about a robot that could replace my caregiving duties for my daughter. Or at least do the heavy lifting! (She is 104 lbs now)
@corlin It's those 360 degree joints. I get that the design is smart, but if you are going for anthropomorphic, then play by the rules or you have a thing that screams "Kill me!" to the human brain.
@corlin It *totally* doesn't creep me out. I mean, no potential for kill-bots there.😏
As I said elsewhere
Boston Dynamics: Home of robots that are very cool, kinda cute, and utterly terrifying.
Honestly, the only thing that keeps them from being panic-inducing levels of scary is that they are totally human-controlled and don't make their own decisions...yet.
@corlin: I do'n't see anything weird or uncanny about it, though they still have a ways to go on mini shock-absorbers or struts to prevent the hard clanking when it is in motion. That said, I am unusual.
@corlin No, doesn't creep me out. But, where/when/why would it be necessary to have these humanoid robots do that weird stand-up in a real-world application?
Seriously, show me a robot in real-world application of it sitting on the couch in his skivvies/wife beater, eating from bag of chips and drinking beer. That would creep me out!
@corlin I've watched this a few times. Yeah, creepy.
