Mr. Tan Man slept most of yesterday after his senior exam, rabies vaccine, Lyme-lepto vaccine, Pro-Heart injection, nail trim, blood draw, new medication, and spinal laser treatment. Today, he’s perky and energetic and ready to head out on his and soak up the sun. I thought this was a bit much for one day, but his veterinarian is PAWESOME and has been taking good care of him, so I trust her judgment.

Good morning to all the big mutts of and their humans who are up before dawn making sure that they live their best lives.

Mr. Tan Man managed to get a half-mile long morning despite having to dodge standing water everywhere after the latest rain from the remnants of Debby.

Mr. Tan Man is probably a bit aggrieved to have missed his usual morning walk, but given the intermittent downpours and the standing water, conditions have not been conducive.

I have made several wonderful friends in the course of my years of volunteering. While the human ones mean a lot to me, they can’t hold a candle to Little Miss Attitude. I was her “handler” at an adoption event for the animal shelter where I volunteered. It was love at first sight for me, Mr. Carolina, and Mr. Tan Man. She’s been my faithful sidekick for ten “pawsome” years.

July 5th is one of the busiest days of the year at animal shelters around America. Terrified dogs who bolt as fireworks go off or escape as owners are busy partying are brought in, scanned for microchips, and in the best case, reunited with grateful owners. Others, like my Shadow, languished for weeks before being adopted. PLEASE ensure that your dog has a collar with a rabies tag and ID and/or a microchip, and that the chip database is updated. Check shelters if your dog escapes.
