Want to keep your dog cool during the dog days or summer? Make them some of these Greek yogurt, blueberry, banana, and peanut butter frozen treats. Dog tested, dog approved, and perfectly okay for humans too! Recipe follows in the reply. #DogsOfCoSo
Mr. Tan Man’s moment of Zen, brought to you by canine Trazadone for his trip to the veterinarian. He’s usually a bundle of trembling nerves on those occasions, but was cool as a cucumber this time. I’m no fan of medicating dogs, but the experience was much less stressful for everyone involved. #DogsOfCoSo
Mr. Tan Man is headed to the veterinarian this morning for his “senior exam.” Everyone in our pack is a “senior” now, and he’s leading the way at an estimated 12.75 dog years or 89 human years. All things considered, he’s in remarkable shape, especially for having been a stray, and then spent over 2 years in an outdoor shelter in South Carolina. #DogsOfCoSo
On August 19, 1987, my now ex-husband and I adopted this awesome #dog from a shelter in Massachusetts. He had apparently been held in the city “pound” for three weeks after escaping his home on the 4th of July, then transferred to the shelter. The vet declared him a “mix of a mix” containing collie, shepherd, setter, and retriever. He was full grown when we got him, and lived another 17.5 years, enjoying vacations in Maine, riding in kayaks, canoes, and motor boats. #DogsOfCoSo
Thought experiment (or perhaps witchcraft… you decide.) Little Miss Attitude is usually unflappable, but last night’s thunderstorms had her freaking out until I put on her ThunderShirt and gave her some calming medicine. While she was shaking like a leaf, I quietly repeated my wish that her fear be transferred to Donald Trump. Imagine if every pet owner did this each time their pet was frightened. “Transfer this terror from [pet name] to Donald Trump.” Repeat as needed. #Politics #DogsOfCoSo
Time to head out the door for a #sniffari with Little Miss Attitude first, then Mr. Tan Man shortly thereafter to see what the day has in store besides the obvious heat and humidity. #DogsOfCoSo
If there’s a greater privilege than watching rescue dogs sleeping in their “furever” home, I don’t know what it is. #DogsOfCoSo
Mr. Tan Man ponders the possibility of reading banned books - or any books, for that matter - on this morning’s #sniffari walk. #DogsOfCoSo
Mr. Tan Man’s morning #sniffari took us past this beautiful lily in our neighborhood native plant garden. While I found it fascinating, he was soon yawning in boredom. #DogsOfCoSo
Little Miss Attitude managed to get her usual mile-long #sniffari walk this morning before the skies opened up. Mr. Tan Man wasn’t that lucky, as he and I were soaked to the skin on our abbreviated walk. #DogsOfCoSo
Little Miss Attitude and Mr. Tan Man only had half-mile #sniffari walks this morning as Momma is resting up after yesterday’s blood donation. My doctor and my FitBit both agree that I’ve got to slow down. What are the odds? #DogsOfCoSo
Trying to get my #dogs to drink water after a walk in the oppressive heat isn’t easy, but they’re excited to get a few sips of low-sodium chicken broth. #DogsOfCoSo
Mr. Tan Man, always the quintessential good sport, looks on bemused as Momma shows off the fossils she found on a morning #sniffari walk. #DogsOfCoso
Attention contractors who “just happen to be in the neighborhood” and imagine that that somehow conveys a free pass to evade our community’s “no solicitation” regulation. If you park in my driveway, walk up my walkway, step onto my front porch and see this, it means that I have two dogs. The instant that you ring my doorbell, they’ll go berserk, often while I’m enjoying some quiet time. Even if you’re selling a service that I need, there’s NO WAY I’ll ever do business with you. #DogsOfCoSo
It’s #NationalIceCreamDay, but since ice cream isn’t ideal for #dogs, I make homemade Greek yogurt, peanut butter, banana, and blueberry frozen treats for Little Miss Attitude and Mr. Tan Man. Dog tested, dog approved, nutritious and fine for humans, too. Recipe follows in the reply. #DogsOfCoso
I’ll spare you the photo of a buzzard feasting on an opossum from this morning’s #sniffari but Little Miss Attitude found the whole thing VERY exciting! We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to these stalwart scavengers who dispatch the many dead birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians in our swampy wooded neighborhood.

At 40 pounds, Little Miss Attitude isn’t all that little, but her heart and attitude are supersized. #DogsOfCoSo
