BIG concert recording gig tomorrow, using very fancy new toys and a couple new (to me) techniques, at an event that hasn't happened since pre-covid.

I am strapped in and ready to pull some audio heat.🔥

Points to anyone who can guess which of the arrays in the above image is the only one I haven't used before and I'm running tomorrow.

Double points to anyone who knows what the angles in the diagram indicate. Hint: it's not the angle between the microphones.

@voltronic I’m going to guess Gerzon and the angles are the coverage of each array.

@bmacmixer
Winner! It's the Stereo Recording Angle, The angle where sound sources falling within that wedge will image between the speakers on playback. Anything falling outside that angle will appear panned hard L or R.

More on the array, which not a lot of people use but sounds like it will be perfect for my application:

@voltronic I knew coverage wasn’t really right. Yes. It’s fascinating how the positing of the mics together creates that illusion or coloring.

@voltronic haha yeah I found the same article!! Would love to know how this turns out!

@bmacmixer
It came out quite well, and you can hear right away how the shuffling in post is required because it's got that hollow, in the box XY sound without it. I'll post a couple samples once I get stuff edited this weekend.
