returntogracegame.com/ Return To Grace (MultiP, p/on )
At 2-3 hrs, RTG is a short walking sim set on Ganymede in 3820. As Adie, explore the Spire complex and find out what happened to an AI named Grace, and whether you can "revive" her.
This is a good mostly on rails experience(couple places the path "branches"). Good writing, voice acting, music. Walk speed is a bit slow. I noticed a few graphical glitches, but nothing game breaking. 👍 👍

Sooo, I did a thing. Upgraded my PC to AM5 with a 7600X. Here's a link to my Tumblr post about it. Hopefully somebody finds it informative and/or amusing? There's some links to benchmarks I've run at the bottom, too. tumblr.com/blackknight95857669

Spent about 4 hours with WoW yesterday, mostly in Valdrakken. It was playable again.. This i5-6400/RX6800 is so much better than the previous i5-920/1050TI. Could manage 30fps+ at the "7" graphics preset (High, I guess?) Getting set up for the AMD 7600X upgrade. Gonna assemble most of the main board, then pop out the old one so I can swap over the DeepCool heat sink. Drop in the new kit and see if it boots. Then, testing. Then, games.

@AskTheDevil Recent events have certainly bridled the fanbase. They might regain trust, unlike Unity (currently Unity sure looks like it's going to collapse, if nothing else Godot is absorbing the lion's share of Unity's userbase loss). But the brand has taken a big hit here, and with that Hasbro may actually be looking to get away from the bad PR. So yeah, it's possible the cost is less than I think. I still think Larian can't solo it, but they just became much bigger players, so who knows.

@AskTheDevil I been gaming a long time now (turned 48 this month) and I can think of maybe a couple dozen games as impressive (more if you wanna include stuff that changed the landscape like say Super Mario 64).

I almost feel sorry for Starfield. I put 230 hours into it, and it was fine, but yea BG3 makes it look like it's sitting at the kiddie table during the holidays.

I sure hope someone gets the rights from Hasbro, but it's gonna cost more than Larian can afford, without help.

Man BG3 is good. Playing co-op w/friend that gave me the CPU I'm about to upgrade (she started me down that path lol) Last night we did some of the Goblin Camp (we play 2-3hrs at a time every few days so, not far yet). Freed Volo and took out a good chunk of Goblins inside the keep. Went back to camp and friend said "Hey, talk to Volo, I wanna see what you do."
Those of you that know, yeah I let him finish, and laughed maniacally as I watched him book it outta camp.

Newegg tracking email showed today. The final.. oh why bullshit myself, the Next upgrade for this PC is due the 28th. That would be:

Ryzen 5 7600X
MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WIFI
32GB G.SKILL Flare X5 DDR5 RAM
Team Group/Team Force 2TB M.2

And, the CPU is currently being sold with a free Team Group/Force 1TB SATA SSD. Bonus.

That, paired with this PowerColor RX 6800, should make this a fairly ok beast, I've just realized...

I've made a huge mistake.

Currently in the middle of a total rework of my WoW UI. Discovered almost 20% of my mods weren't being updated by the CurseForge App. Fixed that. Tossed/replaced mods older than DragonFlight xpac. Logged a blank alt/full UI alt. Blank (just a broker display/FPS counter mod) is getting 10+fps more than full UI. This is pretty good, as it used to be almost 30fps difference, heh. Don't pay to get lazy with updating your UI, lol. Still WIP to get that FPS diff closer.

Slowly dipping my toes into BG3, been a while since I played a game this dense. Just level 3, about to get to Karlach. Also picking up speed in American Truck Sim(huehue). Doing Quick Jobs, building up cash to buy my own truck, cause fuck the "loans" the "Bank" offers. I'm real impressed with the DeepCool Gammaxx GT CPU cooler I bought. BG3 keeps this i5-6400 pegged at 90-99% use and it never breaks 50°c. Glad it's AM5 compatible, gonna upgrade with a 7600X soon.

I've gotten everything reinstalled/setup and the one thing I can't get to run is Fallen Earth (old obscure MMO recently revived). Process that previously worked fails. AMD card is sus, as it's the only change. I'm not finding anything to confirm it tho. But, all things considered, this PC is delivering a consistently good Linux AMD gaming experience. Something I wouldn't have thought possible a decade ago. I can almost get into this PC gaming thing. Almost.

I have now played both BG3 and American Truck Sim (I like a good sim for podcasts, what's better than cross country truckin?) for about a half hour of gameplay (BG3 character creation ate an hour lol). Thankfully, Mangohud worked for both of them. So I can say that with this setup (i5-6400, RX 6800 16gb, 32gb ram at 3066mhz, PNY SATA 500gb SSD) BG3 ran at 60fps at Ultra in 2K, AT Sim at 120fps at Ultra in 2K. Better than I expected. CPU is sweating a bit tho lol.

Last night, I bought Baldur's Gate 3. I've been testing my PC since I got the new GPU/fresh installed the OS, and I'm certain it can handle the game.

So imagine my frustration when, upon downloading the game, it failed to launch.Troubleshot for 3 hours, no dice.

Got up this morning, ready for more troubleshooting. I did my morning routine of updating the system. Noted a Mesa update. Decided to reboot. For fun, loaded Steam and launched BG3.. and it works. Bye.

This i5 6400 is trying not to catch on fire keep up with this RX 6800. So I know the limits of this setup (I mean I did but hard numbers yo) and the next upgrades I wanna look at. A 7700k which a BIOS flash will enable support for(including OCing so the chip ends up only being about a 10% bottleneck 🤣 ), and a 2tb NVME for game storage so I can get them off the 8TB HDD. Been kinda enjoying this whole process building a PC, again. Last time was '08 so, shit's changed, lol.

Well it's been a couple days of frustration with the new AMD card. I was unable to remove Nvidia stuff from my OS, so I ended up fresh installing to make sure there were no driver issues. Now I can't install some things but that's likely a Wine issue. Trying to figure out sys performance, it finally dawned on me Phoronix stuff runs on Linux. Duh. Ran GLmark2 and 6 mins later I checked my score against Open Benchmarking's and y'all, this poor CPU cut the card score in half lol.

I've been banging my head against the wall with this GPU switch from Nvidia to AMD. System tells me the most current Mesa is installed but there's no way it's working properly based on the performance I'm seeing. Tried reinstalling all packages which failed a bunch of times due to "pgp sigs" but finally succeeded and after a reboot nothing has changed. I guess I could try the "Pro" drivers.. I am thinking a fresh install is looking more likely tho, damn it.
