@Skyye Fasho. I mean the Deck is a pretty good upgrade from my PC, which I intend to prove by installing at least LotRO since it's in Steam but I really do wanna check WoW on it since I can check FPS and such in game there. LotRO FPS counter doesn't seem to work, or hasn't on the install on my PC anyway. Assuming I can get decent frames at the same settings I use now for either game (I would be shocked if I didn't), yeah current gen card will do just fine 😁

@Skyye I've been quite impressed with what the Deck can do, and frankly, that level of performance is plenty good enough for me. I'm going to be doing some testing with the Deck soon, install and run WoW and LotRO on it, see how it performs. I've seen that people have done it but I wanna get some hands on myself. This PC runs on an i7 2.5ghz from 2010, which is 1st gen IIRC, and a 1050 TI. 3 gens ago gear would be a massive upgrade lol, and I'm not picky. This gen AMD will be fine.

@Skyye yeah I'm aware, there's no way I'm spending for that card anyway. Frankly a 3060 is OP for what I intend to do with a PC 95% of the time. I'm going to be looking into what level of AMD I can get for the same price as the 3060 is listed at. The fact that Valve stuck AMD in the Steam Deck and I've enjoyed my experience with it so far is definitely making me lean towards AMD.

@Skyye Normally I would disagree with you, as I run Linux exclusively and I've always had good experiences with Nvidia chips. .. However, as I have tried to stay up to speed on the industry I'm aware that both AMD CPUs and GPUs are getting much better support these days (by which I mean, any support lol, Intel AMD Nvidia Linux support is still sketchy at best) so my build list does include a Ryzen CPU. I'm debating which GPU to use still, currently have RTX 3060, may swap in an AMD.

@Skyye Thanks. Already did a fresh install, updated, got the usual system stuff installed, setup the basics so I'm about halfway back to where I was. Also downloaded a few OS ISOs, so I'll be setting up LiveUSBs and testing those over the next few weeks, looking to see if I can find something more agreeable. Plus I'm now seriously contemplating a PC upgrade. This one has served me well but I think 13ish years is long enough.

Not how I wanted to spend any part of today: reinstalling my OS. Not sure what happened when, but after the usual morning update Discord froze then failed to reopen. Attempt from terminal came back with "read only" errors. Somehow my home folder got locked to read only. So I'm currently on a live disk copying things off the SSD to prepare for a fresh install. Twice with this OS since I started using it. Not great. Will be looking for something else, I think.

@Kaysymmetry Recently bought a cosmetically damaged Series X off eBay for $450 all told, to replace a VCR Xbox 1 that bit the dust. My launch day acquired PS5 still gets the most of my console time, but I have quite enjoyed the X these last couple months, it's a solid machine and a good upgrade from previous gen. Also now I will be able to play Starfield, which was the main reason I bought it lol.

Arcade Paradise is fucking excellent. You have a Game Pass sub, you really have no excuse not to check it out. Also it's $20 most places (ProTip, GoG has it on sale for $13) and well worth it.

Owning a has made me forget about how behind the state of Linux gaming still is. Bought 3 bundles recently, 2 Humble(RPG Legends, Myst & more), and a publisher one on . RPGs all work 👍 Myst almost none of them work. Found a workaround for half of them: ScummVM, which I had installed already. Launch, add game, point to folder in Steam library. The publisher bundle I struck out on, none of em work(on my PC 😬 ). Guess I'll be tinkering with Wine.

I played through the starting area of Fallen Earth this morning. Considering how much work it took to install the game AND get it to launch, even through Steam (on Linux), it was pretty amazing to see it running again. It's the closest we may ever get to Fallout MMO. Yeah it's old and janky, but it sure brings back some memories of when I first started playing it over a decade ago. These days it's entirely FTP, which is nice.

Return To Monkey Island (Multi, via for me)

A triumphant return 😁 for Guybrush Threepwood and company. Guybrush once again faces LeChuck, this time in a race to recover the Secret of Monkey Island. This is old school point and click puzzling at its best. Everything in this game is great, acting, animation, puzzles, 4th wall moments, jokes, music. Hated to see credits roll, but sure enjoyed the journey. It's a must play!

Rolled credits on Kena: Bridge of Spirits so here's a little review.

TL;DR: It's very good. Good story, good controls, good acting, good gameplay.. till the finale. Wasn't what I expected, and after a few tries I had to turn the difficulty down. Getting old sucks. However, highly recommended to all gamers.

ProTip: 5 days is too long to not start a car with the always plugged in dash cam we have, apparently. Bonus ProTip: you can jump a car off an RV battery, charge it too if it's shore plugged to the grid, Partner had a few days off so the truck hadn't moved for a bit. RV Park scheduled an asphalt seal for today so I had to move it, which is hard to do if the battery is dead, heh. Dash cam was the only thing that could have drained it, so I guess I know not to leave it plugged in too long, now.

@th3j35t3r to paraphrase what someone over there said, "hey maybe Elon will understand what it's like to be dead-named now." I'd stick with Twitter, for the time being.

@TomeReader Yep, my OG PS4 controller is still fine. A couple I got later developed a bit of drift, but after years. Both the controllers I got with the 5 were drifting before a year was up, and I'm the only one using em, got 2 when I saw the batteries were smaller. I like the idea of the Edge, but fuck Sony for not going with Hall Effect sticks, basically forcing you to buy replacements once they inevitably develop drift. Hence the Gulikit route, for me.

@TomeReader yeah I've replaced 2 controllers so far, got my console on launch day. I wanna get some joystick modules for my Steam Deck from gulikit.com/ and I've noticed they're working on modules for the Dual Sense Edge. I dunno that I wanna spend $200 on a controller just to spend more for hall effect mods, but I have also seen that Gulikit has said they're working on a PS5 controller so I will prob wait on that, assuming it's under $100 like their other kits.

Rolled credits on H:FW's Burning Shores today and boy did I hate to see em, lol. Thoroughly enjoyed that. Still sad about Lance, and curious how they'll address it in the next game as it is obvious he was going to have more than a small role to play. Gotta figure out what's the next game on the "to play" list. The backlog is calling...

So I tried actually playing MLB The Show 23 via Greenlight, took some practice swings, see if the latency was something that would smooth out over time since there aren't any settings I can adjust on the console or app that affected it. Yeah.. not gonna be remote playing any "fast twitch" games on Xbox, lol. I cant say I'm surprised that XBox remote play doesn't work as well as PS5. I usually tend to use the Xbox in the evenings tho so it'll be ok running that big heat producing monitor then.

Got Greenlight working this morning. Wouldn't "see" my console even with "remote features" checked, figured out I needed to test remote play first. Connected no prob then. Tested it out but didn't actually play anything. Seems pretty good, tho I noticed some sound stuttering and some frame skipping. Hopefully something I can smooth out in settings. Not having to use that big monitor will help during hot days this summer. Keep the RV cooler.
