The Government™ has made an ad about the existential threat that AI poses to humanity, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative

Trying so hard to keep an open mind but they're not helping even a little.
"Numerous brands now market AI capabilities for toothbrushes with three-figure price tags."
Sigh. Okay. Maybe. If I never again had to see a dentist. Not even on the street. That's the requirement. (Sorry dentists)

Someone brighter than me* could train an LLM on the NSF awards data and then go forth and rule the world. The objective is to enable natural language searches; it's a Good Idea to at least review and better reference prior awards in NSF Proposals.
Nissan to sign a memorandum of understanding with Baidu, a Chinese search engine and AI company
Toyota to partner with Tencent, the maker of the widely-used WeChat messaging and e-payment app
"as they strive to meet customer demand for AI-enabled online connectivity in cars"

On the occasion of Facebook releasing Llama 3 I'll (re)mention llamafile by Mozilla. Makes single file executables from your choice of LLMs. Many of these can run on a desktop/laptop. Bring Linux and a GPU if possible but not necessary. #LLM #AI

Six ways that AI could change politics
Bruce Schneier and Nathan E. Sanders
"We can draw some fairly straight lines between the current capabilities of AI tools and real-world outcomes that, by the standards of current public understanding, seem truly startling...we propose six milestones that will herald a new era of democratic politics driven by AI..."
(Schneier's worth reading imho)

I just stable diffusioned about 20 years onto my mugshot just by asking for white hair. SD is weird like that; rigorously narrow minded or wildly interpretive.
No doubt the image generation can be impressive.
Especially if you like fingers. Lotsa fingers.
librarians have been saying for years that Google's search is indiscrimant high recall noise.
I do recall this, pre-Google quote:
Larry Page and Sergey Brin were originally pretty negative about search engines that sold ads.
we expect that advertising-funded search engines will be inherently biased towards the advertisers and away from the needs of the consumers
https://calpaterson.com/metadata.html
They were adamant not to sell ads. Now Page soothes the wounds on his own private island.
