They are richer than most sugar cookies, and I don't use shortening or (gods forbid) margarine; it's all real butter. The vanilla isn't overwhelming, as it's there to enhance the butter rather than take center stage.
I don't know if you have ever had Spritz cookies made without almond extract, but it's similar.
