I can’t turn on the news.
Nah me either. I have to stay away from it. 💛
@heyrhiannon @evamarie I can't right now either.
About as close as I get is the late night fellas and John Oliver, and even then in small doses.
@evistre @heyrhiannon @evamarie I check my USA Today app (free version) about twice a day right now for highlights. That’s it. I’ve never watched cable news and stopped watching network news some time ago.
@misslovelymess
I have a TV but I'm too far away from towers to get over the air broadcast channels and streaming isn't an option.
Actually the TV sits in the guest room, unused.
I check a few places a few times a day.
@heyrhiannon I’ve been watching too much TV. This work trip reminds me how I need to stop doing that.
I don't think I could handle the audio and visual aspects, it's relentless. Reading is easier for me.
@heyrhiannon I’m definitely an appreciator of quality shows and movies. But there’s a lot of garbage I watch, and need to dump. I totally understand the overstimulation of it.
@heyrhiannon Also, fun fact: reading for pleasure is only second to meditation in building brain resilience to mitigate the negative impacts of chronic toxic stress.
@misslovelymess @heyrhiannon @evamarie
I always had my nose in a book growing up. I need to get back into that.
@evistre @misslovelymess @heyrhiannon @evamarie
Mom said the world could end and if I were reading, I would not know it.
@MelissaHDavis I’ve always said, I hope I’m in a Barnes and Noble for the end.
@misslovelymess @MelissaHDavis @evistre @heyrhiannon @evamarie
I used to carry a book with me every where I went. Lots of times I still do. Reading is the very best escape.
@CinnamonGirlE @misslovelymess @MelissaHDavis @heyrhiannon @evamarie
Same. I'd read everywhere and all the time.
Mom threatened to ground me from books a few times because I wasn't receptive to being grounded from anything else.
You bet your butts I hid books in every nook and cranny of my bedroom. 💪
(Bad grades, I didn't act out much.)
@CinnamonGirlE @evistre @misslovelymess @MelissaHDavis @heyrhiannon @evamarie
I went through the same fallout when my wife died. I went about two years before I could concentrate enough to read. Never understood that. I'm making up for those lost years now however.
@CinnamonGirlE @altucker @evistre @misslovelymess @MelissaHDavis @evamarie
That's awesome you kept a list.
@heyrhiannon @altucker @evistre @misslovelymess @MelissaHDavis @evamarie
I am a list maker of everything, lol.
@CinnamonGirlE Oh good! I need a good chocolate cake frosting recipe. @heyrhiannon @altucker @evistre @misslovelymess @MelissaHDavis @evamarie
@Lindy @heyrhiannon @altucker @evistre @misslovelymess @MelissaHDavis @evamarie
My mom had a good one. Just let me know. I'll dig it out.
It happens when anyone I'm very close to leaves this world.
@CinnamonGirlE @evistre @misslovelymess @MelissaHDavis @evamarie
@altucker @evistre @misslovelymess @MelissaHDavis @heyrhiannon @evamarie
My list of TBR is gigantic. Because even though I wasn't reading, I still kept compiling my list and books. That's a good thing. Got plenty waiting for me as I dive back in.
I thought I was losing my mind at first when "couldn't read" I guess I kind of was, lol.
