Sometimes having Soviet-born parents (whom you love) can be painful on the physical level.
On New Year’s Eve the last missile fired by Russia on Ukraine was registered at 2 AM.
The following morning my dad sent a video “postcard” in the family chat with a lyrical poem about peace and good will, recited by someone WITH THE FUCKING KREMLIN in the background.

Contrary to the popular view, I don’t see that as a positive development in the long run. America’s democracy is made possible because of the near 50/50 balance of clashing powers that been maintained over centuries.
Tip the scale in favour of one of them, and they might start having detrimental ideas and giving in to temptations, destroying the democratic system for good.
